It doesn't matter what the serious MMA fans think, all that matters is Kimbo had this hype machine around him and is the most recognized MMA fighter. It's all about what the casual viewer thinks, and casual viewers can name Kimbo Slice (fucking everyone knows about him) and nobody else. Last night changed a lot considering every bar was advertising that they were showing the fight after the Phillies game ended, so bars were packed with people wanted to check out Kimbo Slice. Now all these people. What's their impression of MMA? That it had a hype-machine and nothing else? Check.

I don't care what the hardcore fans think, they'll always be there. But the chance to pick up a huge fanbase was lost last night.

Except for one thing, UFC has a stranglehold on the market. Maybe Affliction second place, the only fans Kimbo had was people that really didn't know a ton and had seen his youtube videos. He was a bad example of the sport and that is why most serious fans are glad to see him gone. This will not hurt MMA, at all. Actually it probably doesn't hurt Kimbo at all. This will just make a rematch bigger for him, but I am still glad to see him knocked out.

I'm not saying it hurt MMA, it just did serious damage to them expanding their fanbase. Now, you probably as a "purist" (or whatever the best word is) wouldn't want the casual fans showing up anyway. But from the standpoint of MMA becoming more than that "thing they show on the small tv in the bar", last night seriously hindered it.

Well, not regular casual fans. But when I see some roided idiot at a bar booing when they go to the ground and then telling people he is a UFC fighters it pisses me off.

Sherdog's been pretty amusing today with all the angry people over Lesnar's win. I don't think he deserved a title shot this early in his MMA career, but he = $$$ so the logic is very obvious. He's like Shaq in the NBA. Not refined, but so big and powerful that he had instant credibility. If he continues to train and build on this he can definitely be a solid fighter, after all, he was a beast in NCAA.

EDIT - Oh, and I take back my previous discussion with Gummy. I was drunk when I started it and just didn't want to concede lol. The last few months I've really gotten into MMA, more than just watching matches awhile after they happen.

The problem is Randy's strategy is to work guys against the cage and ground and pound them.
Good luck against a guy who is 13 years younger, 81 inch reach, 45 lbs heavier and has enormous hands and a 2000 NCAA wrestling champion. The man is a beast. That and he must be working REALLY hard because his striking improved a shit ton. I was impressed, now Fedor has to come over and school him.
Also in recent news I trained with Royce Gracie for the 2nd time again yesterday, the man is awesome, really funny and taught us some cool techniques.

Do you see Fedor going into the Octagon though? I expect Brock-Mir II to be on tap next, after that I wouldn't be shocked if Fedor were to face him.

Also, awesome on training with Gracie. I could have met Dan Gable way, way back in the day, but I couldn't go to a week-long camp in Colorado or wherever the hell it was.

Mir has pretty much no shot at beating Nougeira, he isn't good enough to knock him out and his jiu jitsu isn't as good.

And I really don't know about seeing Fedor in the UFC. He talked with Dana but Dana wouldn't let him compete in combat sambo because if he lost it might make him look worse as a UFC champ. (he actually lost his first match today for the first time in Combat Sambo) at least I'm pretty sure he was undefeated until today.

By the way Lesnar weighed in at 275 lbs at the day of the fight. He said it in an interview.

Lesnar must have starved himself for like 3 days going into the weigh-in on Friday.

Actually it's pretty easy for wrestlers to do that. I've heard of guys packing on 25+ lbs.

Frank Mir is an awesome guy.

Brock lesnar is an absolute cock with no respect, in fact he once said something along the lines as.

"I hate gay people, you heard me"

He can go fall in a pit. He is also a prime example of the UFC needing a super heavy weight class.

All I got to say about Lesnar is that Dana White only sees HUGE dollar signs in him.

Yeah , i am sure lesnar is a dick. The fact is he is as big as a talk and as fast as most welterweights, and i just hate Frank Mir. I dont know why, i dont know when i realized this, i just dont like him. I cant stand josh koscheck either. Love Kenflo though. :headbang:

Either way Mir could kneebar him again in a heartbeat. :D Lol one comment sparked many more after months of limbo with this thread.

Anyone watch WEC40? Anyone else disappointed with torres performance? Even though he won.

I believe Torres to be a very overrated fighter. WEC doesn't have amazing competition, especially at those levels.

I think Fedor belongs in UFC and that fighting the same ole Pride guys over and over again is boring as hell

See I think Torres is a beast and has proven that in previous fights, he just looked weak and didn't even go for many takedowns. And that doesn't make sense considering he's a well rounded fighter. I just love the Bantamweights because thats what I weigh and I like to see the small guys fight. And featherweights as well, they tear it up.

Fedor won't sign with UFC and I don't blame him. Dana won't let him do Shooto or anything else on the side. Kinda whack.

Dana wouldn't allow him to compete in Sambo tournaments, obviously since you have a risk at getting injured in Sambo and Fedor does still compete at high levels.

If Fedor would be potential champion for the UFC then it would be weird for him to keep going to Russia to compete in Sambo and potentially lose as he did recently.

Fedor will never go to UFC as long as they're using an octagon.

So, basically, he'll never be in UFC.
