Firefox says you spelled humor wrong.

Also. R. Kelly is hilarious. I love that new song, and music video, he did with Usher. It's got the best plot twist ever at the end.

Humour is how you spell humour in the queen's english. And you're talking about "Same Girl." I don't care if Firefox says it's wrong, Humour is spelled with a "u".

2007 roundup (of things i saw while i flicked through some stuff)

Maserati owned this year hands down.
65dos was good, but not as good as One Time for All Time.
GiaA was good, but didn't sound ANY different from their old stuff.
Caspian KILLED, even if some of the songs get obnoxiously quiet.
Grails...uh.... i don't really know what they're playing anymore
Lebanon was totally surprising. i could have sworn they were a 'one drum tap, two guitar strums per song' band
Moving Mountains was catchy as hell. i always feel like i SHOULDN'T be liking them, but it feels so goooood
DMST wasn't bad, not memorable either

this is the part where i'd tell you to listen to Appleseed Cast, but you fucks OBVIOUSLY aren't COOL enough
doesn't anyone love themselves anymore?

-->art blahg.

I threw a full slurpee at some fat weeabo girl who was wearing a Naruto headband and kept ending every remark to her weeabo friends with "so-and-so-chan" on the train last year. The look of shock was pretty spectacular. Running from the transit cops for fifteen minutes afterward? Not so much.

The Samuel Jackson Five are good, but tragic proof that post rock doesn't always equal amazingly excellent.

I've downloaded albums from The Appleseed Cast, Caspian, and Valley Of Giants, as per reccomendations.

So far, Appleseed is fucking rad.

I feel like I kid watching porn for the first time:

What is post-rock? I am captivated...I have to hear this stuff *please don't be let down Petey*

Only thing I find obnoxious is the genre name. I hate genres & labeling, but I guess everything must be filed! :glare:

You're not alone, alot of Post-Rock bands don't even like the genre name because it's too confining.

Post Rock goes in a million different directions, with different philosophies on how the song will be carried (although the guitar is the lead most of the time), the music itself is an experience, alot of Post-Rock consists of albums that you could space out to and not feel like you wasted a minute of your time. There aren't vocals per se, but a staple in the genre is for someone to start talking at the end of the album or the beginning of a song, most likely about subjects like philosophy, existence, or the mind.....and sometimes it's just people bullshitting. Good examples of this are on Godspeed You, Black Emperor's album Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas Towards Heaven.

A good start would be Red Sparrowes, or 65daysofstatic for a good exaple of the genre that doesn't throw too many curveballs.

65dos are a really bad place to start if you're trying to get the gist of the genre. start with the classics:

godspeed you! black emperor
mogwai
tortoise

essentially, it's "using rock instruments to create non-rock music", but that's a really loose definition. it would be easier to listen to a few unquestionably post-rock bands than to write out a definition

But why? 65 and Godspeed seem to live right in the same vein, although 65 plays with piano pieces. The main reason I got into them was because of the easy listening, it didn't come at me like Valley Of The Giants did.

65dos are like electronic music for people who listen to post-rock. since only a few bands sound like them it's not a great idea to use them as representatives of the style as a whole. like, i wouldn't tell someone to listen to Novembre if i wanted to show them what death metal is

but seriously, 65dos are tight as fuck. drove through ghosts to get here
