Fraps issues

I thought it might just be the game so then I ran Left 4 Dead which I get about 75-80 FPS on average and it did the same thing: I set the recording rate to 20FPS and it dropped my ingame rate all the way down to 8-9. Anyone know what's up?

That was the first thing I thought of, so to test that I shut off basically everything but my wireless network monitor and it still did it.

Hmm, might want to try reinstallation too. There just doesn't seem like too many things that could go wrong with that simple of a program. Bizarreness.

Edit: It works now? WTF?

I even uninstalled my 2.9.8 and installed 2.9.6 just to try another version and it's the same shit. So fucking frustrating.

Too much job :/
This blows majorly. Do you perhaps know of an alternative to fraps? I just got back into doing these Let's Plays and it would suck to put it on hold again.

Good deal man, thanks.
On a sidenote: Is it not weird to anyone else that there's a high volume of AE'rs at almost 3AM? I mean I'm up because I dozed off around 8PM yesterday and can't sleep but this is just wacky to me.
edit: The Camtasia software seems good, but it makes my screen kind of flicker ingame and when the video plays back it's ridiculously choppy. Any other suggestions?

Incidentally this whole issue with fraps may very well be resulting from your cpu dying. I'd give it a try when you get your system up to par.
The only other programs I can think of are:
CamStudio: Which is like a free version of camtasia, but it chugs a lot.
ZD Recorder: Seems pretty good.

Edit: Do this.
Once stero mix is enabled it will record the sound. Your setup may look a little different. (I know mine does.) So I set it up like this:
