Galkar
So I'm guessing plenty of you fine folks own this game, and I've been thinking about getting it, but I want to hear something from a real person, not some IGN reviewer. What is there to say about it? Link to comment

What is there to say about it? I am trying to find time to play it. It seems different considering I haven't played any turn based RPGs in awhile. Link to comment
Ceraziefish
The big question is is it as good as Dragon Warrior III? Seriously, I love that game. Link to comment
Kreutz
I just got it today, and it's pretty good. Graphics and music are excellent. The voices take getting used to but are also excellent. I'm about two hours in, so I'm in no position to talk about the story. It's a little easier to play than DQ7, since you actually know what to do most of the time. Gone is the action menu, replaced by the action button (and only 15 years later than everyone else, too). So far, I recommend it. Link to comment
Akito
I've only played the demo, but it left a great impression. If you're a fan of Japanese RPGs, then it's certainly worth getting. Link to comment
Gundampilotspaz
My brother has it, so I'll start a game soon. The demo was pretty awesome. Link to comment
darkon
I may or may not get this. My real question is how long will it take on average? Link to comment

Wind
I'm rather loving the game right now. My save game is about 5 hours in and I'm currently battling Khalamari or whatever, that huge squid mosnter at sea. I've fought him 3 times losing each time, but I'll most likely kick his ass tomorrow. Link to comment

Also, boomerang FTW, I fucking love that thing. Link to comment
Wind
I was considering buying a bummering or a scythe, but the problem is I put all the skill points acquired from leveling up into Swords / courage for main char, and Axe / Humawhatever *the special skillthing at the bottom* for Yangus, therefore I don't know if buying the better weapon would be a wise idea. The Boomerang attacks all of the enemies at once. I recommend it for anything but Cat Faces. Link to comment
Ceraziefish
http://www.classicgaming.com/reviews/dq8.html Good read, it makes some good points. That man has quite obviously never played Dragon Warrior III (I'll start calling it Quest when it becomes a game about Questing rather than a game about Wars), because that game rules. Seriously, simple character growth? Unlikely. Whatever. I guess I'm just the only person who likes the first three games. Link to comment

If it's any consolation, I like the first two Dragon Warrior games. Then again, I've only played two Dragon Warrior games, so I can't say much about the series as a whole. Played a demo of VIII, but I can't say much more than the amount of leveling that likely will need to be done on top of the numerous random encounters that take you into very, very lengthy battles would be quite annoying. darkon
But I do not love Dragon Warrior VII. In fact, I have never played Dragon Warrior VII. If you can find 120 hours go and do it. I got 40 hours in and realized I was 1/3 of the way through and wanted to die. So I stopped playing. Link to comment
Chrono of The Black Howling
I feel like I am one the few people that actually enjoyed Dragonquest VII; although, finding a few of those map shards was a severe pain in the ass. -_- The last boss was a complete joke. I am Currently at Level 14 in Dragon Quest VIII about to fight the sea monster Edited December 1, 2005 by Teh Violator of your Dreams Link to comment
Akito
I love DQ7 as well. Haven't had time to finish it (I'm only 40 hours through), but it's certainly one of my favorite RPGs of last generation. Also, that DQ8 review at Classicgaming.com should only be taken as someone else's opinion, because that's all it is. The author of that review is not an authority of the RPG genre, he is just merely a gamer that never cared for the series. So I don't want his words to dissuade anyone from giving the game a chance. Gundampilotspaz
http://www.classicgaming.com/reviews/dq8.html I stopped reading after this: The Dragon Quest (formerly Dragon Warrior in America, but make sure you call it by its Japanese name or the cool kids won't let you in their club) series has never really been popular outside of Japan. This is because they have all been terrible. Good read, it makes some good points. Shut up Link to comment
darkon
Let me edit my past statement. I liked DQ7. I just can't play a game for as long as I needed to in order to beat it. Link to comment

I'm about 15 hrs into it and just got all 4 party members. Yes I gave Yangus all his points to clubs but then bought a huge hammer for 900 gold to give it a try. HE went from doing around 25 damage to now around 40. So yes it's alot better. Link to comment

GummyBearOfDoom
29 hours into the game, don't want to reveal to much but the story line is amazing. Link to comment
