I'm now halfway in reading this book and it's really awesome. There are few parts which are boring though. Tolkien is really the ultimate writer.

The book is really technical, but I find it much easier to read than LOTR. I don't know if it's the same case with others.

I need to attempt to read it again. I read approximately half of it four years ago, but back then I was too young for some of the literary stuff and the writing was just too intense.

I found it read like the bible in some ays and was a hell of alot more umm factually written I suppose is the ebst way I could describe it compared to LOTR which was rather bothersome for me at times. But I still loved the book something wicked. And the especially the telling of the noldor race.

Just realize that the Silmarillion is basically a compendium/campanion reference book to the rest of the LOTR series and it reads just fine.

Oh yes, it does. It's just that if people want to know about stuff barely mentioned in the LOTR series, all they have to do is read the Silmarillion.

I took a Myth and Tolkien class a couple semesters ago that compared Tolkien's works to actual myth. It was really interesting. The Silmarillion is Tolkien's first and last book and is simply amazing.

I've always known as NFiME as a common abbreviation?

Meh, back when I listened to that album religiously I always saw it abbreviated as NiME.

you know, because "nightfall" is one word.

Perhaps it's the fact that aside from the most common and worldly understandable abbreviations, I don't abbreviate anything. It's just not something I do. So when I see other people abbreviating everything, it gives me a headache.

Well... The Hobbit was a much better read than LOTR is all I'll say.

And the Silmarillion, from what I've read of it, isn't bad. It's kind of like reading the more interesting parts of the Return of the King's appendix.
