Tanni Foemangler
over the weekend i finally went to my old comic store and picked up 3+ months worth of stuff, which wasn't really that much since all i have in my pullbox are ultimates, planetary, desolation jones, and ex machina. so i picked up all.... 6 of the comics i'd been missing, plus house of M 6-8 (amping up for X-factor beeeyatch) and a captain america TPB that was drawn by jae lee so does anyone else read ex machina yet? it's totally my fave ongoing series Link to comment
The Masked Men
Haven't read Ex Machina, no. Right now my pull list is Infinite Crisis (which I'm loving way more than I thought I would since Villains United was the only pre-IC thing that didn't reek of sucktitude), Thing (because Dan Slott RULES), and possibly X-Factor. I'm pretty broke right now. - Masked Man #2 Link to comment
Silver Cyclone
I read a few episodes which I found by chnace. Being in england there is no comic book stores. But from what I read a bloody loved it. Link to comment
Arcane
I'm pretty much a comic n00b, but I was at my local comic shop today and there was a comic called SoulFire that really caught my eye. Anyone know if it's any decent? Link to comment
Tanni Foemangler
based solely on my experience with michael turner-created comics, i'd say it's a lot of eye candy that starts with a solid idea but peters out after a few issues. but then, judging by his recent work i can't even say soulfire's candy will be that sweet and i just finished house of M, which i was thoroughly stoked on up until ish 7 when it started wrapping up. and the ads for decimation aren't very appealing. i really don't want ANOTHER crappy excalibur comic to sully the name of a once great book >>. but i'm still totally looking forward to X factor aaaaaand i hope chuck austen hasn't been allowed to write any books lately. that cap A book i read was soooo pretty and had some nice words (thanks mr. rieber) but the story was so fucking predictable and unsatisfying. BUT my man jae lee made it worth the $13 Link to comment
Oerlikon
Whatever happened to Image comics? Did they go out of business?... Link to comment
Tanni Foemangler
image still makes tons of comics, they're just divided up into smaller studios (like in the old days, but more dramatic). i personally don't read any of them, but i know invincible is good Link to comment
Oerlikon
Thanks. They always had good artwork, but not very good stories. The only ones I remember were Ballistic and Wet Works. My fav comic of all-time was Love and Rockets from the Hernandez Bros. Great stuff!... Link to comment
Tanni Foemangler
arright, just scored me a few TPBs: -animal man book 1 -doom patrol: crawling from the wreckage (book 1) -noble causes vol 1: in sickness and health -invincible vol 1: family matters sometime over the summer i realized i'm a closet grant morrison fan *update edit: holy SHIT is invincible rad. damn **and another thing: doom patrol was goofy/cool as i wanted (cliff rules), animal man was cool, and noble causes was good but not great Link to comment
Ceraziefish
I just borrowed a giant Sin City book from a friend of mine, but I haven't read it yet. Link to comment

Tanni Foemangler
awwww yeaauhh. got my promethea: pt. 1 earlier. i looked through some of the later books at a comic store the other day... and probably won't pick up the rest of promethea, no matter how rad the first book is. i just don't think i can handle the vaseline photographed issue **update... from the future!!! DAMN promethea kicks ass. i may have to choke a friend of mine for insinuating otherwise.... Link to comment
Wind
I wouldn't mind finding a comic to read that suites me and i'd enjoy, but with so many choices and many being mediocre its tough. Link to comment
Samurai Drifter
Wind, I am on a crusade reccommending Bone (since it's one of the few American comics I've finished). So read Bone, it's good. Link to comment
Ceraziefish
I agree with SD. Bone is very, very excellent. Link to comment

Samurai Drifter
I dunno about hardback, but I have a one-volume paperback edition. It's massive (around 1300 pages). Link to comment

Yeah, I checked that one out from the library. It's good stuff. Read it in like a day, loved it. Isn't there a prequel or something like that? Link to comment
Tanni Foemangler
update to my TPB collection: -daredevil: wake up (HIGHLY recommended) -invincible: eight is enough -promethea, book 2 -madrox -tales from the EDGE, 10th anniversary book -the sandman: endless nights i don't know what to say, careful research on my part has once again led to one of the best scores on record. David Mack proved once again that he's a fucking GOD among men, invincible kept my faith in superheroes alive, promethea killed (the live action photo-sequence was surprisingly painless). madrox was unfortunately.... not quite up to snuff. so many good ideas were floated, but i didn't feel like many of them stuck. maybe it was just too much to fit into such a short mini... and the other two... truthfully, i was drawn to them because Barron Storey took part in each of them, but the surprise hit of spring break was Frank Quitely's pages in Endless Nights. i never dug the dude's art too much, what with all the women with the same lemon face and tilted posture, but holy SHIT did his watercolored story of Destiny rule. maybe not the highlight of the book, but damned cool on the monthly issue front, Ex Machina and Desolation Jones continued their domination, but an unexpected challenger to the "fave regular comic" throne has surfaced: nextwave. in short, it's more support for a longstanding theory: (warren ellis + superheroes) x creative freedom = gold Link to comment
Nega-Brent
I'm reading Ultra right now, it's really good. The style is kind of like a Showtime television series with superheroes. I'm also reading a lot of DC comics because of the Infinite Crisis crossover event. I no longer read Marvel since they've absolutely destroyed any feeling of continuity they once had. Link to comment

I'm also reading a lot of DC comics because of the Infinite Crisis crossover event. I no longer read Marvel since they've absolutely destroyed any feeling of continuity they once had. It's funny; even though I think DC has a much much MUCH better handle on their own universe and continuity and whatnot, the only titles I'm buying right now are Marvel ones (Thing, X-Factor, and the X-Statix miniseries) except for Infinite Crisis itself. Like, Marvel needs to stop with the giant crossovers because they usually look stupid and Civil War is no exception. - Masked Man 2 Link to comment
Nega-Brent
Marvel needs their heroes to stop living on the same island and rarely work or interact with each other. Link to comment
TeleportSandwich
So what is this whole infinity crisis thing? I was browsing my news stand today and I saw a comic called "The Last Days of Superman". In it, thier were two Superman battling it out. One was from Earth 1 and the othe from Earth 2. This story seemed to be some kind of allegory of the fights between conservatives and liberals, but what I wan't to know is why the fuck are thier two earths and two Supermans? Link to comment

This story seemed to be some kind of allegory of the fights between conservatives and liberals, but what I wan't to know is why the fuck are thier two earths and two Supermans? The Crisis on Infinite Earths was an event in DC Comics where they destroyed their multi-verse and created a single universe in an effort to reboot all of their characters whom most have had nearly a century of confusing history. The story involved every hero and villain from countless Earths uniting to battle an epic foe. It ended with Superman of Earth 2 (the Superman from the golden age of comics) being one of only 4 survivors of the multi-verse. Infinity Crisis involves the return of the Crisis survivors who wish to re-establish the multi-verse in order to find a perfect Earth and establish it as the only Earth. Superman of Earth 2 was dooped into this plan when he was promised that they could find a cure for Lois of Earth 2 (another survivor) who had become ill. Lois soon died and Superman of Earth 2 went ape shit. Link to comment
