Nega-Brent
So this year's E3 has come to a close. There were lots of surprises and a lot of rather bland titles displayed for current gen consoles. With all of the good news in mind though, share with everyone what you think were the top 10 surprises of E3 2006. Le Arsie's Top 10: 1. Nintendo Wii's line-up of games: Metroid 3, Red Steel, Super Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess, and especially Super Smash Bros. Brawl have me very excited. 2. Mass Effect: A next gen action RPG from Bioware and it looks amazing. 3. Assassin's Creed: A Crusade action title from the creators of The Prince of Persia with what looks like some revolutionary A.I. and great graphics. 4. Gears of War: The gameplay demos they had this year looked amazing and I cannot wait to use the chainsaw. 5. Resistance: Fall of Man: A PS3 shooter from Insomniac, I don't much care for the story, I just want to see what kind of weapons they've dreamed up for this puppy. 6. Final Fantasy XIII: Two real console games and one with a female lead that doesn't dress trampy or is actually a guy. 7. Viva Pinata: It looks very unique and colorful, which has me very intrigued. 8. Spore: It just looks like an incredible game. 9. Lost Planet: Looks like an indredibly fun and intense third-person shooter. 10. God Hand: A refreshingly funny and weird beat-em up from the creators of Viewtiful Joe and Okami. EDIT: Replaced Prey with Spore, I forgot about Spore. Link to comment
thebornotaku
Don't forget how bad prey got fucked up, like the physics change from room to room, so you walk through a doorway and you never know which way you're gonna fall. Link to comment
J-Stop
1. Wii footage and demos - Like Le Arsie said. 2. The 15 min trailer for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Seeing all the characters return in stunning visuals, the suprises, like Raiden returning as a total badass, and snake putting the gun in his mouth, was enough to make any person weep in delight. 3 Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. Finally we get the backstory as to why Big Boss defects and creates Outer Heaven. Kojima was showing it off at E3, and it looks really fucking amazing for a PSP game, and plays really well too. 4. MOTHERFUCKING PERSONA 3 IS COMING STATESIDE! Oh, Rule of Rose and Devil Summoner are too, but the Persona being NA bound announcement was shocking. 5. Capcom continuing the Phoenix Wright series on the DS, and releasing them in the US. 6. Sony's price tag on the PS3. Self-explanatory. 7. Silent Hill: Origins being an original title rather then a remake, and setting it as a prequel. 8. Although i've seen the gameplay video about 10 times now, I still don't remember the game's name. But it's the one where war wages on for over a 70 year period, and most intriguing of all, has real bullet physics. 9. Super Paper Mario. 'Nuff said. 10. Jackass the game still being made. LeadingMan
1) Mass Effect: Real time conversation, an entire galaxy to explore and everything from the people in your party to blowing up the landscape is customized to the player. 2) Halo 3: Lord almighty... Cortana running rampant, and the ark about to fuck up our shit. I've never wanted to finish the fight so bad. 3) Spore: Must... play... Must... Sell soul... to Will Wright... 4) Smash Bros Brawl: Everything looked awesome except for the idea that snake might get his ass kicked by pikachu. 5) Gears of War: CHAINSAW! 6) Splinter Cell: Double Agent: Beautiful game? Check. A story that actually makes you feel involved for once? Check. Michael Ironside? Check. 7) Assasin's Creed: While I didn't see more than the trailer the concept sounds cool. And I read a bit about their crowd technology. Sounds neat. 8) Final Fantasy XIII: Gunblades are back! WOO! 9) Hellgate: London - Might as well be Diablo 3. Goodbye life hello addiction. 10) Xbox Live Anywhere: Such an incredible idea, now if only it had a better game to flagship than that piece of crap they're dressing up in Shadowruns corpse. Ceraziefish
Smash Bros Brawl: Everything looked awesome except for the idea that snake might get his ass kicked by pikachu. Might? Please. Anyway, my list begins and ends with the Nintendo Wii. That thing looks tight. Link to comment
darkon
1 - Wii and anyting associated with it (I'm grouping just about all of it together, I think... except for anything else that blew my mind) 2- SUPER FUCKING SMASH FUCKING BROS. FUCKING BRAWL!!!! 3- Final Fantasy XIII (Really do I need to elaborate?) 4- PERSONA FUCKING 3!!!!! 5- Spore... though I'll likely never play it because I have no free time this looks RAD. 6- Seeing the internet backlash to anything PS3. 7- God of War II (Looks like it'll be a great game to put my PS2 to rest) 8- MGS4... MGS4!!!!!! 9- Metroid Prime 3: Corruption looks hawt. 10- Trauma Center: Second Opinion Link to comment
Siendra
1. Super Smash Bros. Brawl: The rest of the list together couldn't take the #1 spot from SSBB. 2. Super Mario Galaxy: Damn that looks fun. Too bad it's not a launch title. 3. Live Anywhere 4. Valkyrie Profile Leneth's domestic release.: I'm buying a PSP. 5. Metriod Prime Corruption: Looks way too awesome. 6. MGS3 Trailer: Trailer rocked, but I won't even bother with the game. 7. Lunar Knights: The Boktia(sp) games were pretty good, and Lunar Knights looks awesome. 8. Sonic Wild Fire: Best Sonic since S&K? Maybe. 9. Sonic Fever: I liked the Adventure games and Heroes, so I don't doubt Fever for a second. 10. Star Fox DS: Yayyyyyyyyy Link to comment
Ceraziefish
4. Valkyrie Profile Leneth's domestic release.: I'm buying a PSP. You know, between that game and Gitaroo Man Lives I may just have to get a PSP. Link to comment
Alundra
Not much coverage of it, but God almighty, Crysis is the best looking game to come out of that show. Link to comment
Hero
10. Portable Ops. This game damn well better have Ocelot in the main story, but it's shaping up nicely. 9. Elite Beat Agents. Since Inis is making it, it's more of a sequel than anything else. 8. Yoshi's Island 2. Sequel to best platformer ever? :O 7. All the Square titles getting release dates. Fourth quarter this year is going to be insane. 6. Sonic Wild Fire. Looks way better than the 360/PS3 title, gameplay-wise. 3D Sonic should definitely be on rails. 5. Thank you, Capcom, for bringing Gyakuten Saiban 2 to the DS in the US. 4. Metroid Prime 3 looks great. I hope they fix the turning radius problems for launch. 3. Dragon Quest Swords! If it's an updated version of Dragon Quest Kenshin, sign me the fuck up. 2. Super Mario Galaxy looks very much like the game I've waited ten years for. 1. oh god smash bros orgasm. I haven't been that excited since Twilight Princess was first shown. Non-numbered stuff that annoyed me: - Nintendo, why the hell didn't you show Smash Bros. at the conference and win in style? - Good job showing off the PS1 emulation, Sony. You just forgot to tell us, you know, pricing and launch and titles and anything of any importance. - I don't get the "Wii games look like Gamecube games!" complaints when Sony spent half an hour of its conference showing a PS2 game running on theoretical PS3 hardware. - What the hell, Capcom? 2007 for Phoenix Wright 2? It should not take that long, especially when GS2 is launching for cellphones well before then. - ...load times on a cart, Square? Sloppy. The FFIII DS load times are apparently even worse than the PS1 games. - FFXIII exemplifies Nomura's generic design, when half the live-updates initially described the video as "Another Yuna title". - Speaking of which, no, Square. You can not make three FFXIII games at once. If you must whore out a title, wait seven years and realize you have nothing else, like you did with FFVII. - Nintendo, please, please do not let Artoon develop Yoshi's Island 2 without watching over them every step of the way. I think that's all I can remember. Link to comment
Akito
1. PlayStation 3's controller. It's SO innovative. 2. First person shooters. We just don't have enough of them. I'm glad to see more. 3. HD menus. I hate car-driving games, but if the next Gran Turismo will have HD menus, then I'm already sold. 4. Elite Beat Agents. It's like Ouendan except with crappy music. I can't wait. 5. Xbox 360. It's still looking like the greatest home console in history. 6. EA's booth. EA continues to push the boundries of imagination... sort of like the Twilight Zone. 7. Capcom's booth. Nothing but quality here. They haven't gone downhill AT ALL. 8. THREE Final Fantasy 13s. Because one isn't enough. 9. Booth babes. I don't actually care about video games. I just want to look at scantily clad sluts. 10. G4's E3 converage. It was so diverse and not at all centralized around western games that any kind of gamer could find something to get excited about. Ikari Warrior
Akito's post made my sarcasm detector explode. Comic Book Guy: "Oh, a sarcasm detector, that's a REAL useful invention." *Professor Frink's sarcasm detector explodes* I have to admit, I'm not disappointed with G4's E3 coverage, but I had no expectations, either. As a matter of fact, I was outright bored with it. There are just so many commercials, and too many ads for other G4 shows. I don't mind them plugging their crap, but come on, they spend literally 3 minutes talking about E3 stuff, and then spend 7 talking about G4, then there's a 3 and a half minute commercial break, then it's back to the old pattern. It was boring and mediocre. Further, the only game demos I've actually seen (on G4) were for Wii...everything else was a video. Also, I'm somewhat disappointed in a lack of support for the current gen. All I saw about PS2 was Okami and GoW2. Sure, those are good, but I'd like to know what else is going on. The Wii and PS3 aren't out yet, Nintendo and Sony can't abandon their current consoles yet. Also, I'm annoyed that Nintendo did not give us a price tag for the Wii! If it's operable with game demos, and is coming out this fall/winter, they should have a price ready. Link to comment
LeadingMan
Personally I just hate the fact that X-Play in their review of Fight Night Round 3 complained there were too many ads durning the game... (btw have they ever seen a boxing match? Of course there are ads! Boxing matches are practically two living billboards beating each other up in a ring with ads held in a center named after those tiny pieces of metal you put in your stapler.) Then during every 5 seconds of their E3 coverage they say "In depth: fueled by Mountain Dew" or "Connect to E3 with Netscape" way to live above the hypocrisy guys... Link to comment

It should not take that long, especially when GS2 is launching for cellphones well before then. Hopefully they'll pile on some new content by then, but then again it's Capcom. It's kind of good in a way, though, since there are tons of games to pick up the rest of this year. Not to mention the Wii or Lite, either. Link to comment
