Hard Drive Crash...

actually.. i think this may have taken a turn for the worse (losing everything i have)

i thought it was only the drive i boot with, and that formatting it would fix it... but the format failed saying that the drive is damaged.. now i'm gonna have to completely format the other one (losing the rest of everything) and use that one as my boot drive... christ, this really sucks we're talking 120+ gigabytes of music

zOMG! This is bad.

Sometimes you can take an old drive, set it as slave or c-select, & pop it into another computer & remove your files. Even with the crashed one. Sometimes it actually works. So yeah! Tyr that before doing anything else. If not, I have this recovery program that I can send your way! It'll recover most of your stuff, even after you reformat the drive! ( ^o^) <3

  • 2 weeks later...

Well, if anyone cares (har har) I got my desktop back online with my other HD (300 gig) and i'm starting to re-build that music collection I had, [but now there's something going on with the sound... I can't play any music without getting weird clicking interference... I think it has to do with the Sound Card, but this didn't happen on the other HD... any ideas?

so all your old files are intact?

oh, haha, no  that's all gone, but everything else is intact

I currently have about.... 15 albums on my computer... as opposed to the 1500 I had a few weeks ago  I got high hopes though, it'll all come back one way or another :crube:

If you send me the b0rked drive and a drive to put the music on, i can try to recover the files.

Put it this way, i've done a few data recoveries, first one was 100% successfull off of a drive with messed up logic, second one hav 80%+ of it's files recovered, and after my drive died i got somewhere in the neighborhood of 75-80% recovered successfully.

I only lost two gigs of porn, which isn't that much really, when I had at least 40-50gb of data on the drive.

EDIT: Also keep in mind that windows is moronic and the smallest of errorss may make windows say "fucks no" to a drive, but i've got a linux box, and I also have GetDataBackNTFS (which is how i did all my other recoveries)

nah, it's not recoverable, i've had someone look at it, and he's very good with computers. the problem being... when the HD first died, i tried formatting it, knowing full well that i'd be losing everything, but i'd still have the HD, well the format when to 100% and failed... thus deleting everything on it....

ah well, just thought i'd suggest it.

I do also know of a company that does the same sort of thing, except they do it so well, they managed to recover a guy's data after he shot his hard drive then barbequed it, they got like 60-75% of the data off, but paying for it is total assrape.
