Post-modernism. Yes.

This is quite fascinting.

Post meaning after or later.

Modern meaning something new.

ism meaning doctrine, a theory or a system of principals.

Yes. Combine all these together & you get post-modernism.

Meaning after the moden era there was a new doctrine, theory, or principals of belief put into place which was supposed to start change or a new way of thinking & doing things.

Awe fuck it. I don't know. :laugh:

Why would one merely post that they haven't heard of post modernism? Google it first, or something.

Anyway, I would think Mith's definition is the best I've heard. Or as that Simpsons episode goes:

Homer: What's with all the eyeballs?

Moe: It's po-mo.

Homer: ?

Moe: You know, post modern.

Homer: ?

Moe: Wierd for the sake of weird.

Homer: Oh I see.

:p

According to Wikipedia all of the following bands are cited as being important to PostModern Music.

* The Beatles

* Can

* Kraftwerk

* The Velvet Underground

* Pink Floyd

* Frank Zappa

* Wire (band)

* The Butthole Surfers

* Beck

* Radiohead

* Stereolab

* Suicide

* Throbbing Gristle

* Björk

I guess I like Post Modern music, since I like several of those bands.

Oh honestly... you people need to do some fucking research.

anyway, I think post-modernism simply desires to perpetuate a nihilistic existance based on the pursuit of pleasure.

Or we're just not 'artsy' enough to give a rats ass about postmodernism

Even saying the word makes me want to wear thick black rimmed glasses and go to some faggy art exhibition.

Hmm... I always thought it refferred to political corectness and watching what you say because you might offend people.

Which, of course, is bullshit.

oO; that has nothing at all to do with post modernism.

in fact post modernism is kind of the opposite of that since it believes that nothing matters.

Post-modernism is an illogical art form I'd say, as such, it doesn't exist. Sure, it tries and on occasion manages to exist, because reality is an illusion which is always malleable, so it is understandable. Here is why it can't exist. Modern would obviously be anything that would be in the present tense, or at least very close to the present. Post would be a prefix that would mean after, which essentially means post-modern is actually just future. Unless this art is travelling through time, it cannot be post-modern. If this art did travel through time, however, it would create an entire new slew of paradoxes and illogical inconsistencies. Therefore, I conclude that this art is not from the future in which the present must reach, rather, that it is actually art made in the present, thus making it modern art.

One could argue that this art style comes after the period known as modern, however, I disagree. I theorize that every period of art was named "modern" at the time, simply because it was so. It's distinct name was added later. For example. A man did not walk by the Notre Dame shortly before it was finished and say, "Nice example of gothic art, good sir! I'm liking the flying buttresses." Just like probably one walked by Picasso and said, "Hmm, nice modern style of painting you've got there. It's quite surreal, however, I would not brand its style that way, for it is most modern."

Post-modernism then is a non-existent form of style that some "arteests" would try to claim their art is, which it is not, for it cannot be.

How does it occasionally exist if it would have to travel through time to do so?

If time travel were easily used, it would be occasionally around alright. People could have access to it whenever they desired, but really, how many would want to? Thus it would remain occasionally present.
