Gundampilotspaz
This isn't a topic to bash either. But some compare the two because I am really undecided if I should as for one for christmas. I am leaning toward the DS, because soon FF3 is going to be coming out. Link to comment
Makil
I don't have a DS, just a PSP. But for an all around media device, the PSP is nice to have (but the space issue for mem sticks is a bit of a bother). Though the game lineup sucked at launch, it's starting to get a little better. And there's a lot of hacks you can do to it, so you can play ROMS and whatnot if you want. But if you want to spend more time gaming, as you should with a portable, the DS would be a better choice. But if you'd like to have a sexy device that can do other things when you're on the go, get a PSP. Link to comment
Siendra
Games: DS. Simply put, it has more. Not only more, but what it has is often a lot better. Nothing on the PSP can hold a candle to the likes of Meteos, CV, Dual Strike, and so forth. Not to mention if you want RPG's, the DS has and is getting a hell of a lot more thenthe PSP. Online: DS Close. Very close. The PSP webrowser and streaming content is really cool, but the community set-up that Wifi Connection is building is a lot of fun. Design: PSP It's slick, it's shiny, it looks like it costs $300. Protability: DS The clamshell design fucking owns the PSP in the portable factor. And the DS cards are a hell of a lot better then the UMD format aswell. Then there's the battery life. Although the PSP has a decent battery life now, you can get a good twenty hours on one DS charge if you aren't being stupid when you charge it. Visuals: PSP Obvious. It just looks pretty. Some DS games look really bloody good, but the PSP software is better. Sound: DS No joke. I'm talking without headphones, though. The DS stereo speakers are vastly more powerful then the PSP's. Control: DS I like the PSP's nub, I really do, but the touchscreen is a whole hell of a lot better once you get used to it. The DS directional pad is also more responsive then that of the PSP. DS wins five to two in my books. The PSP is a good piece of hardware, but the DS is just better as a gaming device. Edited December 4, 2005 by Siendra Link to comment
darkon
I have played neither, and I tend to judge game systems based on the games they have. As a result I have to say currently the DS is better. FF3 is a nice perk, but having played the game in ROM before it's not a "must have", nor are most of the games on DS which feel like mostly to be console ports or ports of games never releasedin the U.S. (ROM games). Nonetheless, both have their pluses and minuses it appears. Link to comment
Arcane
I like the DS more myself. I think it has better, more innovative games, and more of them to boot. PLUS PICTOCHAT, W00T! Seriously though, my brother had a PSP and I never saw him playing it. He sold it a little while ago. My brother is dumb though. Link to comment
Alundra
Let's see, DS: - Great library of games that will keep you busy for months. - Budding online gameplay that is tough to connect to, but a blast to play with once connected. - Being able to play wirelessly with one cart with up to 5 people. - Long battery life. - Play-Yan devices that enable you to watch video and listen to music. - Playing FFIV on it. PSP: - Only 3 good games to really speak of. - Short battery life. - Watch movies and listen to music, but a hassle to compress non-UMD movies to the Duo. - Homebrew applications and SNES, Genesis emulation with Firmware 1.51 downgrade, or the 2.0 crack. I guess I don't understand the whole short battery thing. I regularly get 8 hours playing GTA, 10 hours listening to MP3s and playing emulators. As far as homebrew, people are spending more time cracking firmware than writing stable software. Eventually we'll get something that can run Chrono Trigger and FFIII at full speed, but until then I'm not bothering. If you want to play games (preferably those involving Mario), get a DS. If you want an all-around machine, get a PSP. Don't support the UMD movie format until Sony comes to their senses and adjusts the price structure, whatever you do. Link to comment

Hahaha Ahahahaha Ahahaha Yes, all good DS games involve Mario. Lemme just look through my DS collection here. For your benefit, I'll bold the worthless titles that don't have Mario in them (since the DS isn't a very all-around system, you see). - Mario Kart - Sonic Rush - Phoenix Wright - Viewtiful Joe - Nintendogs - Mario & Luigi 2 - Nanostray - Nintendogs - Yoshi Touch N Go - Pac N Roll - Kirby Canvas Curse - Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow - Osu! Tatake! Ouendan! - Tony Hawk's American Sk8land - Dragonball Z: Supersonic Warriors 2 - Advance Wars Dual Strike - Trauma Center: Under the Knife - Feel the Magic XY/XX - Sprung - Meteos - Bomberman - Jump Superstars - Ultimate Spider-Man Man, what a Mario-centric system. Man, if you only want Mario games, the DS is the system for you. On a side note, know what I'm playing on my PSP right now? Super Mario RPG. My friend's playing Mario All-Stars. How well-rounded. Hero
About Mario & Luigi being better? Or about my list above? Because M&L's way better than MRPG. Mario RPG is an RPG with Mario in it. M&L's an RPG about Mario. I consider the latter far more important than for the former. Link to comment

Alundra
With the traditional RPG in mind, Mario RPG takes the cake, but for those who need some actual interaction in their battles, M&L wins. My question to you, Hero, is: Does the game match Superstar Saga's brilliance later on? I am an hour in (Prince Bowsers Castle - near the end), and the comedy hasn't really hit home yet. It is if you're up to speed on your Mario references. Also, a lot of the comedy just comes from the brothers' interactions with the babies and the gibberish italian. Also, you'll get a chance to go in to the sewers below the palace at some point. Choose to follow it all the way through and you'll find the funniest character from SS. Link to comment

I'm late to this, but I just have to correct you here: This is the Final Fantasy 3 on the DS: "console ports or ports of games never releasedin the U.S. (ROM games)." Are you thinking of the PSP or just channelling Laura Foy from G4TV.com? No, the DS games are in no way "Console Ports" or Ports of non-US games (except for the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attourny and lazy-ass movie cash-in games). care to back that up? Link to comment
