Ceraziefish
I tried to put in my name as "Casanova Frankenstein" in Cyrillic and it gave me THIS *points to display name.* I know I've seen someone with Japanese characters in their display name, why can't I use Cyrillic? Gr... Link to comment

eleet
Well, there are a few reasons why you can't do such a thing. PHP/SQL/Your Web Browser support, basically, the entire Latin derived character set. Cyrillic, and Japanese, are NOT part of this character set. If you enter a character it does not support, it gets converted. Link to comment
No Sad Endings
But we can use Japanese here. And chinese. And I think Korean but I'm not positive on that one. Link to comment

Ceraziefish
PHP and SQL support it, but not all browsers do. But I know I've seen Cyrillic on Russian websites. So do Russians just have their own crazy version of PHP or what-have-you? Link to comment

I was totally jealous, and that means that apparently Half-Life 2 multiplayer games can handle it. Link to comment

eleet
PHP/SQL/Your Web Browser are all localized. If you downloaded the English version (US or UK) it's going to pretty much support the English alphabet and some special characters. That's about it. Anything more and you're asking too much. The problem really just lies in support for Encoding/Character sets. Would anyone like to point to any usernames on the board with Asian characters in their names so I can try and explain how that's possible? Link to comment
