PMA
So I've been out of the RPG loop, for the most part, for the last two years. Haven't played hardly any of the Shin Megami games. None of the newer Nippon Ichi games. None of the newer Tales. Hell, I don't really KNOW what I missed. Definitely feeling REALLY in the mood for some really good RPGs. When I get home, I plan on just sitting down and playing through 2 or 3. So this is where I ask for your suggestions. Anything is fine. Strat RPGs, Turnbased, Realtime, etc. You all know my "taste" for the most part, at this point. So point me in a good direction bitches. Link to comment
Scarface
Suikoden? That or I forget if you liked or even played Symphonia, but the Tales series is awesome. Shin Megami Tensei is more of an old school approach to modern RPGs, but the stories are are centered around being very demonic and dark for the most part. Skip Xenosaga and FF12 and VP2 if you are low on money at the moment, they will drop in price shortly. Disgaea 2 is loads of mindless time wasting fun. ....eh? I guess.... Link to comment
PMA
Are FF12 and VP2 out? And Shin Megami is about demons? Awesome. Hopefully in the evil sense, not the Disgaea sense. Hahaha Any standout "no name" RPGs come out? Link to comment
Scarface
Yer mama two is coming out. It's a game about DRL's mom, she gains levels as people plow her. and SMT is about evil demons, very demonic driven game. They are great! Link to comment

Akito
Baten Kaitos Origins is out. I haven't played it, or the first one, but I thought you'd be interested. Also, Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation for GBA was released in the US not too long ago, so if you can find a copy, go for it. As far as Shin Megami Tensei goes, here are your choices: Nocturne - This one is sort of like Pokemon, and probably my favorite of the bunch. Plenty of awesome demons to recruit. However, there is a bit of a learning curve to it, and many things aren't explained too well in-game, so you may need to consult the strategy guide or an online FAQ before you can play it properly. Digital Devil Saga - This one is a two-part game, making it your most expensive choice. It basically plays just like Nocturne, except now you don't recruit demons. Instead you just have a party like in most other RPGs. Neither of the DDS games are terribly long, so if you don't have a lot of time on your hands, and you want to give the series a try, then this is your best bet. Devil Summoner - This one takes place in 1920's Japan as opposed to the post-apocalyptic setting of the other games. It was also just released a week ago, so it won't be hard to find. The gameplay is quite a bit different since it drops the turn-based battle system in favor of a real-time battle system like the Tales games. As to which you should choose, that's up to you. They're all pretty badass, and they all have awesome soundtracks. If soundtracks are a big factor for you, then Nocturne or DDS1 are your best choices. Link to comment
PMA
Word. Thanks alot Akito, that sheds some light on the SM series, for sure. And ooooh... I didn't know Okami was out. It looked awesome last I checked, so I'll definitely check it out. Thanks! What the shit is Atelier Iris about? I remember you jabbering about it before... and I think there's a sequel coming out. Is it an oldschool type RPG? That's the impression I got... but I could be horribly wrong. Link to comment
PMA
Oh... and Akito (or anyone). Are the Shin Megami games related story wise? Or just stand alone games? I mean... in theory is there a order I SHOULD play the games to get the most out of them? Link to comment
Akito
They're unrelated, so it won't matter which one you play first. The exception, of course, is DDS2, which shouldn't be played until you beat DDS1, otherwise the story will be hard to follow. Link to comment
Kyoudai
Atelier Iris is indeed an oldschool RPG. I thought it was great, but I haven't yet touched the sequal. It uses 2D sprites for it's characters, and they look beautiful. Disgeae 2 is excellent and it ended up taking up a lot of my time. Right now I'm playing Tales of Legendia, and I plan on playing Tales of the Abyss next. And Okami is excellent as well. It's probably the best Zelda rip off I've ever seen. Link to comment
LinkOcarinaMan
And Okami is excellent as well. It's probably the best Zelda rip off I've ever seen. How dare you say a CRAPcom game is better than Crystalis or Alundra, especially Crystalis. Link to comment
Scarface
Alundra kicks so much ass. Link to comment
Kyoudai
How dare you say a CRAPcom game is better than Crystalis or Alundra, especially Crystalis. Calm down. I guess I should have been more specific. Its the best 3D Zelda rip off I've ever seen. But I don't think 3D Zelda is as good as everyone thinks it is anyway. Link to comment
