Of course, never buy bootlegs.

Both HK subs and fansub bootlegs are a double edged sword. On one hand, a bunch of older series that never got subbed fully by fans can usually be found via HK boots. The series I posted an image of is one good example. It's a 50 episode series with only 6 episodes subbed by fans, the rest can only be found on HK subs.

Besides, HK boots are fun. :hardgay:

And most people who buy fansubs (which, are usually from sellers who just steal the files, pop them on a DVD and sell them on eBay) are mostly fans that can't find them or don't feel like taking up time and space to burn them.

If Toga ever asked for links to download a series, I'd be more then willing to lend him a hand in finding torrents rather then let him buy burnt DVDs from some thief on eBay. Because a few people on a forum probably aren't going to sway him into spending the money on official DVDs, even if it does help the series creators.

You're also giving your money to unscrupulous people that may or may not have connections with organized crime. Also, you are paying for what might be inferior quality translations. Do your research first before paying $20 + for what might be a mangled mess of babelfish'd translation and chinglish

Unless Megaupload has ties to the mafia or triads, I'm not giving anyone money for these subs. And yes, I am using a lot of space (at least 12 gigs worth) to download inferior quality translations, but they are translations none the less. Where as no one else has translated the series beyond episode 6, and never will.

Well if you're only downloading them on the internets, then I really don't care. Its the people that pay for the HK dvd's thank I disapprove of.

Also, I wasn't specifically addressing you, just anyone that buys bootlegs

He is right in one respect. If you have the only and the DVDs are out you should attempt to buy them

But most of us are poor and starving students. Besides, I have my share of anime DVDs if I want some free it's my right at this point.

Of course, never buy bootlegs.

Besides, you don't even have a leg to stand on in this case, Bleach is free on both Japanese and American TV, and fansubbers provide their translations for free, so you're not stealing anything by getting fansubs. Unless you believe those assholes in the MPAA who would claim that every time you record something off of television it's stealing.

This is a forum, and one of the main points of forums is to have a variety of differing viewpoints reperesented. I have the right to say what I want. So, again, fuck you.

I only disapprove of the fansubs when they take profits away from the industry, which isn't the case all that often but is in this case. If you're downloading the fansubs instead of buying the DVDs, you're stealing, plain and simple. Your argument would be great and all, if Toga wasn't looking for the subbed version, which does not air on American cable.

If it was Hollywood, where studios rake in $500,000,000 for a movie that would be one thing, but it's the anime industry. The entire industry makes in a year the same amount of profits Hollywood studios make off of single movies, and only that much because it's grown with the fans' support in buying series they helped bring to the US with fansubs.

So, yeah, I'm gonna "moralize" here. Deal with it.

And I have the right to say I think you should stop yelling vainly and annoying a bunch of people who don't care, because that's my viewpoint. And actually, you don't have the right to say anything you want, and neither do I, because this is a personal message board that doesn't belong to you, but that's kind of beside the point.

Toga is looking for the subbed version, the subs to which are provided by fans translating for free, added to the original material which was broadcast for free. And the American companies are raping fans with those DVDs - as Siendra said, they're shitty.
