Anime Gee
So yeah. My brother has a PS2. I've been wanting to play a fun role-playing game recently. Here are all the games that I have played in the past that are or are kinda related to the genre: Legend of Zelda Zelda II Metroid Earthbound Zelda on Super NES Final Fantasy 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, Quest Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete Lunar: Eternal Blue Parasite Eve Xenogears Dragoon Heart (i think that's what it was called) So yeah. I need a game that will keep me entertained for a long time. I saw a few games at EB, but I wasn't too sure. I've been out of the video game loop for a long time. Except for the Bemani stuff at the arcades. Hahaha! I'm not too much into those 3-D type role playing games where the world spins around. The only one I liked was Xenogears & that was pretty much it. So yeah! Recommend me something. You see the list of games that I liked. This is for the PS2. ( ^o^) <3 Link to comment
Akito
If you're looking for a great 2-D RPG for PS2, I recommend Atelier Iris. Well, I haven't played it yet, but I've heard nothing but good things about it. Link to comment
Alundra
Shadow Hearts 2: Covenant Link to comment

David
Star Ocean: Till The End Of Time is $20, since it's now on the Greatest Hits list. Edited December 20, 2005 by SvM_Zoicoll Link to comment
Samurai Drifter
I second Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. I'll also reccomend Kingdom Hearts; the battle system is similar and even though it has a lot of Disney in it it's still a highly entertaining game. I've almost beaten it and have 60+ hours, so it's definitely something you can invest a lot of time in. Link to comment
Gundampilotspaz
Suikoden 1, 2, and 3 for Playstation. The first three are great well rounded games that rival the best Final Fantasy has to offer. Link to comment

J-Stop
Playstation 1 games were mentioned, but no one said Wild Arms, what the fuck? PS1, Wild Arms - Fantastic [but short] 2D RPG with a some interesting plot twists and a very memorable soundtrack. Granstream Saga - A nice action RPG that has anime style cut-scenes. Vagrent Story Saga Frontier Alundra [1] Breath of Fire IV [or III, both are good for a quick romp around] PS2, If you haven't tried any of Nippon Ichi games, you might want to give them a whirl. They're all fun 2D style RPGs with hours of gameplay. Games include La Milf Pucelle Tactics, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, and Phantom Brave. Dark Cloud 2 Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits [another good short and cheap romp game] Okage: The Shadow King Front Mission 4 - Not as good as III, or difficult for that matter, but for it's price tag it'll give you a nice Mech fix if you don't have Zone of the Enders. Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga [1 and 2] - If you have the money, defiantly pick these two up. Both the story and battle system are fantastic in almost every aspect. As Hero and Alundra pointed out, go with Shadow Hearts 2, as well. It's $20 [and, cheaper in some spots], and worth every penny. I'll give these a whirl! (^o^ ) Avoid I and III. SKII will burn a hole in your wallet as it is, but it's great. SKI and III's are just boring. Avoid IV at all costs, too. Link to comment

The story will eventually pick up after you get past the initial 10 hours of gameplay. But by that token, the game is very long and will suck up your life. I bought it when it came out and lost so much of my free time because of the games length. I am lv. 50-something and still am not close to beating it. Link to comment

darkon
It has the worst plot twist in history, though. The ending sort of makes up for it. Shame I never got to the ending myself and my cousin had to show it to me... Link to comment

Probably something like that. I always thought they had a contest where you, the fan, could write the new Star Ocean. Of course they had trouble marketing this and the only person to find out was a 2nd grader. Link to comment
David
I always thought the plot twist was supposed to be ironic. But yeah, SO3 will take a ridiculous amount of time unless you've got days you can devote to playing it, or decide to cheese the game by refining 8 ATK+500/DEF+100s to a weapon. Link to comment
