Cip
So last night at about 9pm eastern time We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank, Modest Mouse's new album leaked. I grabbed it right away and had my first two listens before I went to sleep. Today I listened two more times and have come to the conclusion that everyone must listen to this album. At first listen it doesnt seem anything amazing, but with a few listens it is apparent that this album kicks ass. Since Johnny Marr of the Smiths is now a permanent guitarist in Modest Mouse and recorded the entire album with them you can definately hear his influence in the guitar work, though Issac Brock's oldschool modest mouse riffs are still in there too. What it reminds me of is a more advanced, layered version of the album the Moon and Antarctica mixed with the more pop sound of Johny Marr. So anyways Everyone should check this album out! Belial
The single they released a couple weeks back worried me a bit, since it seemed like Brock was holding back with the vocals (i.e. less screaming) and the whole thing sounded a bit too... over polished to me, But then, my favorite Modest Mouse album is probably "The Lonesome Crowded West" which is now ten years old. I'll definitely download this one though. Link to comment

But he goes to about the limit of good news. Like I love their old stuff just as much as I did Good news but this really has a completely different vibe. I was a bit worried with the Dashboard single too, but the production on the album truly is amazing when you pay attention to it. And it really helps if you like the Smiths music too. Link to comment
LeadingMan
Dashboard took a little while to grow on me as well. But that's actually pretty standard. Each album I start off complaining about how much I hate the change in their sound, and then I slowly listen to it more and begin to appreciate it. This only seems to happen with Modest Mouse though. The same thing occurring with another bands sound can cause me to completely swear them off. I suppose that's a testament to their talent when it comes down to it... Link to comment
Ceraziefish
I've never listened to Modest Mouse. I met the drummer once, though. Link to comment

Ceraziefish
after listening twice, it gets five bongs out of three *Slap.* You mean time dilation devices, not bongs. So crude. Link to comment
cappy
i heard them once in my buddys car and liked them a lot but forgot about them. im gonna take a listen to their new album faux chizzelles Link to comment
cappy
hmm ok after my first listen i have come to the conclusion that listening to this album and listening to the breakfast club soundtrack are essentially the same thing. if someone swapped one of these songs with one of the ones on that soundtrack, most people wouldnt even notice. i was kind of hoping this kind of rock died with the 80s. maybe my opinion will change on my second listen. This album has more of an acquired tasted plus especially if have not listened to much of their older stuff. Link to comment

winterlong
So, I downloaded the new Modest Mouse album. I think that I dislike the vocals. It sounds like dirty country. But! I am hoping to warm up to them, so there may be a future between us! Link to comment

Cip
-cough- thisisalongdriveforsomeonewithnothingtothinkabout -cough- well yeah but that is just as good as lonesome crowded west in my opinion, but I think in terms of accessbility good news, and moon are the most. plus the moon and antarctica is among the most trippiest albums I've ever listened to. Belial
This is sort of a tangent, but I've got an album called "Pickin' on Modest Mouse" that is bluegrass covers of a whole bunch of good Modest Mouse tracks. Its by some group called Iron Horse and its totally awesome. Link to comment
