Recommendation thread

So, this recommendation thread is mostly for you wonderful anime geeks to give me some anime to watch that I'd like. But since this is a publicly viewable thread, I guess posting recommendations for everyone would be good too.

As for me, what I like is stuff with vikings, zombies, the occult, heavy metal, and abstract craziness.

There's a stipulation, however, as I despise your formulaic shounen BS like Naruto and Bleach.

That's interesting, yet irrelevant as no one's posted in that thread since the cold war ended and I'm actually giving this miserable excuse for a sub-forum some semblance of life and worthiness.

Well, the first two that spring to mind are Bastard! and Berserk, but you've probably seen both of those. In fact, I think I remember you mentioning them in the past.

I think you might like Boogiepop Phantom, it's practically dripping with weird occult abstract-ness.

Oh yeah, you might also like Elfen Lied; just to give you a taste of the series the first scene is comprised of a hot naked chick ripping people to pieces with her powers.

I've seen Boogiepop and I liked it. I might give that Elfen Lied a try. I've heard it was good.

The first episode of Elfen Lied is a mindfuck, man. You have a naked chick killing people with invisible arms, then she winds up on a beach and she's like this innocent girl. Within the first 15 minutes. Brutal Killer to innocent. It's strange.

From what I've seen of Azumanga Daioh, it looks pretty random. I also heard it has no plot cohesion.

I still think Berserk is the most metal anime ever. Blood by the bucketfulls, rape, demons, etc. Excellent story too, but not well-told in the anime.

Hellsing has some occult stuff in it. Take the OVAs over the series. Big time.
