We seriously live in the most commercialized and seriously fucked up society on the planet. Since the higher-ups at my store decided that it was a good idea to stay open on Christmas, we ended up being one of the few places open. Now, in the past, our store was never really that busy on Christmas, since people have better things to do like, I dunno, SPEND TIME WITH THEIR FAMILY. But this year, things were different. We were fucking packed in there. There were already people lined up outside the store before we were even open, just staring at our assitent manager, waiting for her to unlock the door so they can come in.

Now, you might say that they were just there for our Christmas clearence sale, but the truth is, we weren't having one today. There were people in there that were just pleasure shopping. They're fucking addicted to it. I guess all the Christmas shopping they've been doing wasn't enough to give them their fix, and they couldn't even go one day without doing it. I thought people would be a little more reasonable than that, but I was wrong. Nothing could shatter their obediance to the corperate machine. You could shit in a bag and these people would buy it. If you print a coupon for it, they'll buy 10 of them.

I seriously hate retail. People don't buy goods because they want them. They buy goods because they enjoy shopping. Even a holiday as heavily celebrated as Christmas couldn't keep them away.

I personally hate shopping, I will only go to the store when I have a specific item that I wont, I get that, and most of the time only leave with that I came in for…
