Makil
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4508158.stm This has to be one of the most retarded things I've ever heard. Last time I checked, bands made money off touring and playing concerts, not off their songbooks. Hell, most bands don't release songbooks anyways. I don't see how copyright issues fall into this. Most tabs are inaccurate and are someone's interpetation of how the song is played. Link to comment
Belial
They won't be able to shut down all the tab sites, since its not like they are stealing the Publisher's work and even if they were, its the Internet, laws don't apply there. Link to comment
John
Older than the intarnet. Kidding, kidding. I heard about this a week or two ago. It's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. How a fan interpretation of a song steals money away from a band is beyond me. I guess they don't realize that many people learn how to play instraments from tabs. And if people don't learn, they won't start bands, and the MPA won't make sheet music for bands that don't exist, they lose money, the music industry crashes.......ok, maybe all that won't happen, but you get my point. Belial
I didn't think the issue was taking money from the band, but rather taking money away from the Publishers who write and print proffessional Tablatures. Link to comment
rockerluke
I don't understand how it could be illegal. It is just intented for private purposes and viewing. If you make money out of it, that is no doubt illegal. But it is just used for reference purposes. This is really shit. Link to comment

Ceraziefish
WTF? More than half the songs I know I learned from online tabs. They're a great resource. Fuck songbooks, man, fuck songbooks. If I'm going to pay for something I want it to actually be written in sheet music (even though I don't read music too well -- but I'm going to learn, dammit!). And it's not like proffessional tabs are even that good (my friend gave me a songbook for this French band, M, and, despite the fact that it's in French, it's okay, but it's not great). This is so fucking stupid, seriously. Online tabs are a great resource and should be kept as such. It's like having HTML tutorials. Should those be outlawed since some dude published a book on writing HTML, and so all these free ones are now cutting into his business? Learning to be a musician, like any trade, is hard. I know some people can pick out music by ear, but I can't do that very well. Does this mean I shouldn't be allowed to learn to play songs I like without buying some shitty book? Link to comment
