Online tabs now illegal

Older than the intarnet. Kidding, kidding.

I heard about this a week or two ago. It's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. How a fan interpretation of a song steals money away from a band is beyond me. I guess they don't realize that many people learn how to play instraments from tabs. And if people don't learn, they won't start bands, and the MPA won't make sheet music for bands that don't exist, they lose money, the music industry crashes.......ok, maybe all that won't happen, but you get my point.

WTF? More than half the songs I know I learned from online tabs. They're a great resource.

Fuck songbooks, man, fuck songbooks. If I'm going to pay for something I want it to actually be written in sheet music (even though I don't read music too well -- but I'm going to learn, dammit!). And it's not like proffessional tabs are even that good (my friend gave me a songbook for this French band, M, and, despite the fact that it's in French, it's okay, but it's not great).

This is so fucking stupid, seriously. Online tabs are a great resource and should be kept as such. It's like having HTML tutorials. Should those be outlawed since some dude published a book on writing HTML, and so all these free ones are now cutting into his business?

Learning to be a musician, like any trade, is hard. I know some people can pick out music by ear, but I can't do that very well. Does this mean I shouldn't be allowed to learn to play songs I like without buying some shitty book?
