Tull
I came across this report on Gamespot and CVG.com. This is another reason why I think gamers as a whole get the bad reputation as having slightly skewed sense of reality and wrong priorities. I wonder if Metal Gear Solid fans would feel the same if Konami announced that their biggest franchise would go multiplatform. Will people actually stop buying Metal Gear Solid games just because it's not a Sony exclusive anymore? Will people actually stop buying Metal Gear Solid games just because it's not a Sony exclusive anymore? They'd feel a sense of betrayal, but no, they will still buy the games. The same goes for the people who made and are signing the DMC4 petition. It's utter bullshit to believe that all of these people are really not going to buy a game they've been looking forward to because a company wants to go the mulit-console route and make more money. We call this "pulling a Link". Besides, MGS has been on other consoles and nothing happened except Konami getting more money. Link to comment

We call this "pulling a Link". I think most people respect loyalty, not to a game company but to the company that had brought them success. Because, frankly stated, there would be no game publishers without companies willing to built consoles. On the same note, with Metal Gear being a Nintendo title to begin with... it is silly. But I was upset when GTA went to Microsoft, just because that game is a PlayStation title and always has been. It feels like sticking your nose up at sony. But the other side of it is that why have two consoles if every game is going to be univeral? I still see no reason to buy an Xbox outside of Ninja Giaden, and no reason to buy a 360 outside of Dead Rising. Exclusive titles are disappearing.... and I find that a bit sad. I'll leave you with this note, I will play Symphony of the Night on nothing but Playstation! Link to comment

Tull
In response, Capcom's slightly surprised-sounding senior director of strategic planning and research, Christian Svensson, confirmed the company's decision to take Devil May Cry 4 to the Xbox 360 and PC, and stated that although the company was "moved" by the passion that the issue had created in fans, "It really is the best decision for the company and for consumers." In response to those comments, the fans opened a new thread, titled 'So will Dead Rising & Lost Planet ever go to the PS3?' Svensson declared that it was "a fair question" and wrote, "The answer is Dead Rising and Lost Planet: Extreme Condition are not slated to appear on Wii or PS3 as far as current plans go. The reasons for this are quite convoluted and I'm bound by NDAs on these matters so I can't divulge why this is the situation." He added that the quote he made about the company being committed to making titles available to as many consumers as possible referenced the company's strategy "going forward," and these things were not necessarily possible to make happen retroactively. He added, "You can see evidence of this [new strategy] with our previously stated Resident Evil 5 plans going to 360 and PS3 simultaneously." I think this little bit of news will bring these petitioners into an even bigger uproar. Link to comment

But the other side of it is that why have two consoles if every game is going to be univeral? Money from different companies. That's the only reason why DMC fans are pissed off at Capcom, even though most, if not all, are going to buy Devil May Cry 4 anyway. Link to comment

LeadingMan
I think this little bit of news will bring these petitioners into an even bigger uproar. I believe if I remember correctly microsoft has the option to bid first on direct sequels to comarketted properties like Lost Planet and Dead Rising. The words he used, "current plan" kinda prove this. I have a feeling DR2 and LP2 will be timed exclusives unless they have microsoft support their marketing again. (Which was part of the reason for Dead Rising and Lost Planet's success. Those crazy marketing pushes MS did.) Link to comment
Tull
With any sequel to those two titles direct sequels to the original ones it would be difficult, not impossible mind you, to time-exclusive their release first with the 360 then to the PS3 later. Unlike, the GTA series these two games will have an on-going storyline which would need people to play the first one to fully experience it. I still think that Microsoft used their massive cash reserves to make Capcom an offer they couldn't refuse. Especially if Microsoft promised to help subsidize some of the development costs on the games if it went overbudget. Link to comment
LeadingMan
I know for sure that MS supported their marketing within the first 2 months almost 100%. Which is why you saw Lost Planet ads out the ass on TV. So rather than paying for development costs they forked em the money for the after work. But in the end money is money, and yes, money talks. Unfortunately for Sony they're currently not in a position with enough units to secure many exclusives. Link to comment
Tull
One would think that Sony would use it's very own movie studio, Sony Pictures, to entice developers and publishers to go with them. They have a much easier way of marketing and advertising exclusive titles But they've so far only done it with their own Sony developed titles. Link to comment

What will make me buy a PS3 if I already have a 360 and most the games are going to come out for it? Sixaxis? (NOTE: I'm probably going to own a PS3 sooner-or-later. But probably never a 360) No it wasn't. Fine... fine.... whatever.... but the original never came out in the states, did it? Link to comment
Ceraziefish
You know, this post just convinced me that PC games are the ultimate way of the future and console games are dead. I think most people respect loyalty, not to a game company but to the company that had brought them success. Because, frankly stated, there would be no game publishers without companies willing to built consoles. Except for companies that make PC games. On the same note, with Metal Gear being a Nintendo title to begin with... it is silly. But I was upset when GTA went to Microsoft, just because that game is a PlayStation title and always has been. It feels like sticking your nose up at sony. MGS was a PC game first, right? And every GTA game has been released on PC, in, I think, much better versions. The controls work much better and more importantly you can get mods for them. Now, I don't actually think that consoles are dead and PC games will be the only games in five years... But I'm getting close to thinking that. Link to comment
J-Stop
No, I'm asking from a consumer perspective. What will make me buy a PS3 if I already have a 360 and most the games are going to come out for it? I was talking about both perspectives. That for developers, it means more money in the case of one version of the game tanking and losing a ton of money over it. Developers like Namco-Bandai have already stated they need to sell a fuck ton of copies of one game to make even a small profit. And the other being from the consumer, who feels betrayed that he camped out days in advance for a $600 console that the games he was promised to get with it are now coming to a cheaper console thats been available on shelves for over a year. but the original never came out in the states, did it? Yes, it also came out here. Both the original and Solid Snake. Link to comment
J-Stop
MGS was a PC game first, right? Not Metal Gear Solid, that came out on the Playstation first. Metal Gear first came to the MSX, which was mostly a gaming computer at the time that had a ton of Konami games for it. Solid did come out for the PC a few years later, though. Link to comment

Elitist Indie Hipster
Who cares about exclusives. IMO the only exclusive should be first party support, everything else should be Multi. Each company should rely on their own franchise and not someone else's to make or brake them. Link to comment
