Acoustic Post Rock

Today I decided to fool around with my acoustic guitar. It's been a long time since I've seriously played, and this was the result. I liked it so I recorded it, and even though my roommate comes in partway through and we talk about our trials and tribulations with the college housing office, I decided to throw it in there.

The only reason I threw the 'post rock' moniker on there was because I was trying to make it atmospheric (with mixed success, I think) and I was trying to replicate the whole "wall of sound" thing that those post rock guys dig so much. Another part of the atmospheric bit was that I left the window open, hopefully it captured some of the people yelling outside my window.

While I was playing this song, I got in a kind of strange mood, and I think most of the reason for this song is to convey that mood... I'm not sure how well that worked, though. I hope the roommate-coming-in-thing didn't ruin everything (although I did keep playing while I was talking to him, haha, go me).

By the way, the whole thing is improvised, but based around riffs I had made up beforehand. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Also, it needs a title. It's called 'afternoon' because I recorded it in the afternoon. But I'm not post rock enough to call it 'Untitled,' soo...

Robin Flowers could totally be the name of an Indie band. This reminds me of something but I don't know how to describe it. I'll tell you if I like it when I'm all the way done.

I liked it. : D Can you do something in a band setting with bass and drums and stuff? And the talking added to the ambience or something.

ROBIN FLOWERS IS MY NAME, ASS HILL

Haha, yeah, I see what you mean. My roommate has a drumset, we play around sometimes. No bassplayer, though. We're both interested in doing stuff with sampling/talking in the background. I don't know why, but we're both interesting, so expect something at some point if we ever learn anything about real recording.

The actual playing itself felt very bluesy to me. As for the atmospheric feel, I kind of dug it, but still personally wouldn't deem it post-rock ish as an over all. It was good though.

edit: Don't take my input too seriously, I feel like what I said was depressing or mean or dry or something.

Nah, I understand what you're saying. This was more of an experiment than anything, just to see if I could do the 'wall of sound thing' at all.

And, blues is really the main thing I'm good at. Most of my 'guitar practice' is just me fooling around with blues scales. I love blues, saying my playing is bluesy is an excellent compliment.

Thanks for the input, both of you.

Hahaha. You probably have more than I do at this point. :awesome:

Let me check.

7 totally rocking tracks, tis a good start, but we're still short of a full album.

By the way, this latest track is made of win and awesome. I also very much love how you just keep talking to your roommate and playing. And you should go outside cuz it is really nice out there.

I already did go outside

It was nice out there, though.

I guess I do have more than you, I forgot about some of these tracks. I count 14 tracks; but some of them are never getting shared, so don't ask.

Having only just now listened to it >< it sounds like you've definitely developed a lot more of your own personal style than you have had in the past.

I think it might sound better either with a second guitar playing that repetetive rhythmic chordy part so you can do more melodic stuff over it, or with overdubbing to achieve the same thing if you don't have another guitar player.
