I'm on my last days at my current job, and I need some job advice.

Recommended Posts

Like the title says, I'm on the final days of my 2 weeks notice and I need job advice. When I say job advice, I mean please list the possible places where I could work and not be treated like shit by my employer because of the reputation the company has.

Examples- Best buy, Circuit city, target, gamestop.

I pulled a rookie move at work and I need a new place to work while I'll HOPEFULLY be going to school. So I'm going into this with a I dont want to work the rest of my life at thsi job, just make money to buy stupid shit while going to school.

Thank ye my interweb friends.

ha! good luck with best buy and circuit city man. you really have to know you shit to work there and they rarely hire new people.

targets pretty much a garentee to get some work there, just dont be expecting to work in electronics/entertainment department for a long time.

the best time to try for gamestop/eb games is around october when they start looking for holiday help. but besides that they don't usually hire unless for some reason they fired a bunch of people for stealing (happened at the gamestop that i worked at)

targets probably your best bet. but expect to be working in the back or as a cashier.

btw what is your current job?

The people who work at Target here are really stupid.

Circuit City seems like a good place to get into. My cousin works at BestBuy and seems to like it since he's been there for a long time.

I don't really know any more than that. Sorry. ^^;;

Penneys treats me pretty good but I still hate it. o_o

People at Best Buy and Circuit City really know their shit? I don't know what kind of Circuit City you go to, but everyone who works at an electronics store around here is a complete tool. "Windows Vista is the best Microsoft OS ever." "You can only put pictures on your RAZR with this $50 data cable." "This Laptop with Windows Vista, 1GB of RAM, a 3.2Ghz P4, and an X300 integrated for $2000 can play any game that comes out at max settings." "We don't sell AMD processors."

Best Buy and Circuit City are both retarded. Nobody knows their shit at either of these stores.

Kitoshi you seem competent when it comes to computers, ever think of getting a job at a small local repair shop?

Oh the generalizations of this thread.

I see where you're coming from, but that's kind of the point.

I mean, the companies still have the same corporate offices, and that's where a lot of the trouble comes from. Some corporate offices don't care if you complain your manager is satan incarnate, while others do what they can to help you. You can't predict the managers you'll get, but you can predict if there's anyone there who would try to help you.

I mean, the corporate people from Penneys come in all the time and I always get complimented, get raises, and promotions so in my eyes they are not bad at all for a corporation.

On the other hand, NO ONE should work for Venture Services. They are evvvviillll. I'll be making more money than my mom soon because they believe no one should get raises after working there for the initial three years.

Amen. They are complete fucking tools that just want to make you buy something extra. Always. And they know nothing.

The repair shop sounds like a good idea. The whole small shop sounds good, because it may not suck as much as a corp. I'll ask my uncle.

Also, good advice guys, It's helping out. I'm staying the hell away from target, from personal perspective. I was thinking maybe borders, the bookstore.

You could always try getting a real job. There are plenty of places that offer helpdesk level support openings for people with little to no experience in computers. And depending on how hungry you are to learn and whether or not the company is run by a bunch of dicks, you could easily find quick promotions.

Retail jobs don't tend to go anywhere unless you like filing or counting. A lot.

Can you explain this some more? I'm not quite clear on what you mean. Like over the phone customer service or something? Sorry, im kinda slow.

Well when I speak of helpdesk in particular I'm talking about entry level IT/Tech Support. Basically helpdesk consists of level 1 work like adding removing programs, adding computers to domains, setting up office in all it various forms, and some basic troubleshooting. And I know two of my techs are currently in college while working about 20 hour weeks at $17 bucks an hour. (Part time being their choice of course.)

But that's just in the tech field. I'm not totally sure what you're into. You could try temping part-time pretty much in any field. Typically the pay is better than retail and you don't have to deal with customers.

For a while in highschool I answered phones for hooked on phonics for 10 bucks an hour and all I had to do was sit on my butt and pick up a phone every once and a while to tell people we were too busy to talk to them and take down their number. The rest of my time I spent doing homework.
