Riddle of Steel

Highly recommended. It has the best combat system I've ever played in a game, it makes you have to really think strategically and there is so much more that goes into it than just "I'm attacking him with my sword." Plus it's very realistic and gritty, every time you enter combat your character has a very real risk of being killed or permanently maimed. It's really cool, because it makes players actually try to think of ways to get around combat a lot of times, because it is a very deadly thing, as it should be.

As I said, depending on IRL friend interest I might be running something historical with it. I downloaded a program that lets you run RoS fights and tooled around with that for awhile. It was pretty cool, but I definitely need to read the rules again.

I like it, though, it seems cool. I like the magic rules, too.

Current ideas for a setting are Muslim Spain or Medieval Russia.

Muslim Spain

I'd vote for this one simply because it seems like there'd be more opportunity for interesting characters. Not that Russkies aren't interesting, but in Spain you have all sorts of chances for Religious and Ethnic tensions that could really beef up the story.

Fuck! Arcane you have to run this-- or anything for that matter.

if we can play this online together somehow, i'd be all game for it.

I was probably going to do it on RPoL. I like the system they have there, and it means we won't have to fuck around with meeting up at the same time, etc. It will probably take awhile, though, to do some things. I figure we can just start out with some simple combats and stuff, no real plot to begin with, and then I'll develop it from there. This is mostly because I've never actually played the Riddle of Steel and I only have the quickstart rules (I want to get the core book but I have no local gaming store anymore and, yeah. The site hasn't been updated in sooo long, I'm not sure if I can order it off of there).

Arcane has the core rule book. :headbang: :headbang:

Awright, as soon as I think of a decent name I'm going to make an RPoL game. I expect you to apply! Don't let this be like every other PnP club activity ever.

We'll run some test combats using the quickstart rules (since that's all I have; I'm looking into getting the core book, but it could take awhile, especially if I can't find them).

So, start thinking about characters, and I'll start thinking about a plot.

Not only do I have the core book.... but it's also signed by the authors!

I'm so cool.

I am so jealous...

The last game never going anywhere was mostly my fault, I didn't want to make it seem like it was anyone else's... But I seem to remember someone (dunno who) saying they would make a character and then not doing it.

Maybe it was Faulty. I haven't seen him around here in awhile.

I promise I will definitely actually play this time.

Really.

I'll come to Seattle and break your fool ass if you don't :awesome:

Anyway, game is up!

The name of the game is taken from a novel I quite enjoyed about Muslim Spain. Pomegranates were the symbol of the Caliphate of Al-Andalus, and I think it's quite a nice name.

I'm not going to lie, I find the RPOL interface unwieldy.

I hated it at first, but I actually like it.

There's a new version coming out on May 5th, so don't get too comfy with it.

Arcane -- I'm glad to see that someone else thinks so. Although this setting might have the slightest traces of magic, just because I really like the Riddle of Steel magic system. But probably not much. And only if people want it. Basically, it will be a matter of not knowing if the court magician is really a magician or not, not knowing if the people going missing in the hills were captured by fey, or bandits.
