Elitist Indie Hipster
So the NHL implemented an assortment of new rules. Are you for the new rules? against the new rules? what do you like ? what dont you like? Discuss Link to comment
darkon
I had a really long post on another forum where I voice my opinions on a lot of things. But I'll give a bulleted list with what I don't like. -Shootous (They are a terrible way to end a game. It's like letting a Home Run Derby decide a baseball game. Look, you made new rules to increase scoring. As a result, just let them play in OT until the game is over if you want to get rid of ties. It can't take that long give there rarely is a 20 minute period without a goal.) -Anti-fighting (It's part of the game. Deal with it. Oh, and the double standards towards fighting is ridiculous. It's okay for a guy to fight with his helmet on against a guy without his helmet? Ridiculous.) -Scheduling (Now, I love the focus on divisionalg games idea. It really makes those huge rivalry games mean even more. But, please, for the love of god, make sure each team faces one another once a year at least. If I recall, there is only 25 teams that each NHL team is facing.) I also would prefer an 18-team relegation-style league. But that's my personal bias and isn't really practical in the league's format. Link to comment
Reinas
I don't like shootouts much. But it's nice to get one point upon reaching a tie. Anti-fighting rule sucks. Especially the helmet on and off rule. What if the one with the helmet happens to be the larger built player and the one with the helmet off is the smaller one? The refs are going to penalize the smaller when he's probably going to get his ass kicked? Usually. And the refs. Good God, who the heck hired some of them. They suck. Link to comment
Reinas
Another thing --> I wanted the Flames to go against Ovech-king this year. :[ Schedule sucks. Link to comment

Wind
yes its on!! tie game in the third!! GO FUCKING BRUINS Link to comment
Wind
OFcourse they lost in the shootout. I actually am for the shootout system, it adds excitement and intensity. Every round is a "Cover Eye" kind of moment when watching your favorite team. Link to comment
darkon
Another thing --> I wanted the Flames to go against Ovech-king this year. :[ Schedule sucks. I get every single Ovechkin game thanks to where I live. He's beyond a god among men. Crosby is bush league compared to Ovechking. The Caps are in position to get a high draft pick and perhaps add a Messier to Ovechkin's Gretzky. It's a shame I'm not really a fan of the Caps, but hey, entertaining players are entertaining players. If the Caps management is the same as they have always been though, except this team to reach the Stanley Cup Finals and then slowly be disbanded. In part because this is Flyers country no matter which way you slice it. I caught some Flyers-Pens yesterday before falling asleep thanks to my medication. EDIT- And is the official nickname Alexander the Great or Ovechking? I've heard both used. Link to comment

EDIT- And is the official nickname Alexander the Great or Ovechking? I've heard both used. Every single Ovechkin game eh... I like Ovechkin more than I like Crosby and I'm Canadian too. Although out of the acclaimed rookies of this year, it'll be the DION for me. But Ovechkin is just great. I like watching the Caps play with him since his team supports him. They actually play together like a team although they don't always receive the result they want. But Crosby, I feel bad for him. He gets no support from his team, he's basically the only able goalscorer and they hang him out to dry. The Canucks and Pens game was a good example of this. Nice going Pens, it's open season on your rookie that you were so lucky to acquire. I've heard both Alexander the Great and Ovechking both used. I don't know what his official nickname is, and really does it matter? Both are suitable. Although, a nick should be shorter than the actual name so Ovechking is what I'd use. There's a Caps-Pens game right now on FSN. Link to comment
darkon
I guess the determining factor is what the Washington Post labels him, I've got money on Alexander the Great since it looks better in print. Link to comment
Reinas
That's what the game announcers called him tonight. Sid the kid versus Alex the great. Link to comment

Reinas
^ Which is why AO has a big chance of winning the Calder Cup. And he seems to be aiming for the Rocket Richard trophy too, which looks probable. He's only a couple goals behind Kovalchuk. Link to comment

Could you imagine what kind of props this guy'll be getting if Russia goes deep? I don't think he'll get the Rocket Richard, the Calder though he has a huge chance of getting. We watched that video three times consecutively at school today, my friend and I. We're quite obsessed. Link to comment

The Olympics will be a good chance for him to play other NHLers whom he didn't and will not have a chance to play against in the regular season. I don't know...he's only a goal behind Kovalchuk. And Ilya hasn't been hot lately. But we'll see at the end of the season. It'd be pretty cool if AO got both. But I'm still hoping the Calder goes to Phaneuf. Just three times? XD The video's pretty neat I wouldn't be surprised if anyone out there watched it for an hour. Link to comment
darkon
Toronto actually won a game today. *Shock* They've got the 8th seed in East right now. Things could change, Montreal, Atlanta, and Boston could all move into that spot also. Link to comment

Ovechkin is the current Calder favorite, but as a loyal sabres fan (read masochist) I can't count out Miller. As for the shootout, well we've had some bad experiences with long OT's (see sig and Avatar), and while it may be gimmicky, it's exciting, and Vanek is hilarious. He named a few of his shots. Around the world is what he beat hasek with, and he tried to go between his own legs to beat Carolina I hate anti fighting rules, We have a pretty good fighting team (peters injured somebody and pyatt took somebody out with one punch in the last two fights) Link to comment
darkon
The Sabres are a good team I can see advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals. A total shock considering I counted them out before the season started. Though I was expecting magic in 06-07. Link to comment
