OMFG. I just got this game. I'd been waiting for it to come out for so long that I forgot about it completely.

I saw it in Best Buy today, and I bought it. I don't know how it got such good reviews when it runs like complete shit.

I turned all the graphics settings and resolution down to minimum and I only get like 5fps.

WTF. I can run Oblivion on high settings at 1680x1050, no problem. Best Buy had better let me return it or I'm going to shove it up their asses.

Download the latest patch(s) and see if it fixes the problem.

If it doesn't you might be screwed. I don't think anyone takes back PC games once they are opened, even EB stopped doing that a long time ago.

I've downloaded the patches, and tweaked the ini configuration file as shown on the Gothic 3 forums. No luck.

I'm going to attempt to return it tomorrow. Opened game or not, it's defective and does not work as advertised.

I don't know where you heard it got good reviews. Most places I've seen give it 6s and less. Some around 3.

I talked to one of my friends that works at Best Buy a while ago. Bad news is that that they have a policy on opened box PC games and software. Expect something along the lines of "We have no way of proving that it just doesn't work on your system, and we are required not to take back software that is opened".

Hopefully you can get a dumb or new employee tomorrow who will just override it. Best of luck, man.

Probably, since it involves taking the game back, which Best Buy won't do. Worst comes to worst he can always sell it on eBay. He'll lose a few bucks to fees and such, but there isn't much that can be done with an opened PC game besides trying to find a mom and pop store that takes them.

Tell them it was loose in the box and put a few scratches on it. Get them to replace it for another. Later take back the new one that's unopened?

Best Buy employees can be hardasses sometimes. They'd probably blame that on a factory error which they had no control over.

Seriously? I've never had to take anything back there before, but finding that out makes me not want to buy anything from them anymore.

you would however be able to sell it on eBay as a brand new unopened item though.. so that's a thought
