darkon
Anything by Brian Eno, Radiohead, Sigur Ros, Lou Reed, The Arcade Fire, Mogwai, and Jeff Buckley. Most of those recommendations are due to The Velvet Underground or The Decembrists. Edited December 29, 2005 by Marcus Aurelius Link to comment

Belial
If I had to pick only one of those groups to recomend to you, I'd probably say the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs. Their an Art Rock group hailing from NYC. Wikipedia says the following... "Yeah Yeah Yeahs are a New York City-based rock band headed by lead singer Karen O. Other members are Brian Chase (drums) and Nick Zinner (guitars). Their music is a mix of retro styles with heavy rock/punk guitars, synthetic sounds and screaming, erratic and bluesy vocals. They were formed in 2000." Link to comment
darkon
Yeah Yeah Yeahs had that big hit "Maps", which surprisingly isn't one of their best songs. Link to comment
Ceraziefish
Donovan is the shit. I've recently been introduced to Donovan. I'm liking it a lot. Which is weird because I don't really like Bob Dylan. Anyway, the Presidents of the United States of America is one of my favorite bands, and at least Belial mentioned it. Link to comment
Wind
Portishead - Dummy (trip hop with female vocals, really awesome sad but groovy stuff) Broken Social Scene (any cd, theyre an experimental indiesh band) Vast - Nude, Music For People (Both of these cd's are excellent, experimental rock with industrial elements, mostly sampling of buddhist and tribal chants in the music) Link to comment

margot
I only heard one song "motherless bastard" and it was disturbing Link to comment
Battle_Pope
they use aleatoric music style or "found sound" what they call it. It's definitely not too conventional. It works better when you listen to a full cd than just a song on its own. Link to comment
