amy
We already know the Mormons are insane But there are some things I like about Mormons. The thing I like most about Mormons is that they believe the Garden of Eden was in Missouri. Share your non-negative thoughts about Mormons! Do not worry, nobody will think you like Mormons if you post here. Link to comment

Ceraziefish
Some of my childhood friends are Mormons. I've been to Utah and attended church at the biggest Mormon temple in the world, at Salt Lake City. There are some crazy fucking Mormons, but that doesn't make it okay to be religiously intolerant. I personally think the religions is pretty weird and not always a good thing, but sometimes I wonder about other people, like in this thread... I dunno. There are a lot of problems with the religion, but there's a lot of problems with nearly every religion, and I think most people can agree on that. Link to comment

Ceraziefish
The same good quality's with any other organized religion. None. Next time you read, (it's qualities, by the way. Normally I don't point out errors but it was in the thread subject...) thank Christianity for standardizing English and plenty of other languages. Also for keeping literacy alive in Europe and bringing it to cultures that never had it before. Next time you go to a hospital, or use any kind of advanced technology, thank Islamic physicians and scientists who kept science alive while the Europeans were bashing each other in primitive feudalism. Also thank the Christian monks who translated medical and astronomical texts from Arabic into Latin, starting the renaissance and modern society. Next time you're in the new world, thank Christopher Columbus's religious zeal (he wanted to use the money he made from finding China to finance another Crusade). I could keep going but these are the most frighteningly obvious ones. Link to comment

Religions also carry loads and loads of negative aspects and consequences though going back in time and changing things would be retarded. Honestly though, religion has run its course and we need to find ways to structure our lives other than around contradictory fiction novels written by ignorant, desert dwelling nomads millenia ago. Though if everyone became practicing Jains and Buddhists the world would become a much, much better if not more rational place... except soy is gross. :awesome: Link to comment

It's run it's course of usefullness, the good aspects of it one could scrap together rarely surface anymore and it's causing far more destruction than good. Muslims have stopped translating Greek and started blowing themselves up, for example. Also, implied points go over your head. :awesome: Link to comment

Don't glibly dismiss the reason our country got itself into its current bind. And it does have uses. Attacking on a Friday in Ramadan would probably double the normal number of fatalitities if we aimed well enough. I also must ask how ignorant they were. They may not have known much math, science, or geography, but to write the ultimate bestsellers of all time is no mean feat. As for what the books are, well, that depends. In Christianity, the Bible is a collection of books, including a few different genres. I'm not familiar enough with the Koran, Vedas etc. to comment on them. its also worth considering that if people have found value in teachings that include many of the same things, perhaps those common themes are worth studying, at least. If you argue that it should be replaced, tell us what should it be replaced with? Oh, and when it comes to doing good, see what things like Catholic Charities can do for raising funds for charity. My brother just benefited from a Salvation Army program. Look at such simple things as Catholic founded and Catholic run schools and hospitals. Its not headline grabbing, but it is good. But you just said the world would be better if people became Buddhists or Jains! The problem with religion isn't the religion itself, it's the crazy fucks who believe in it. I mean, there's absolutely no reason a buddhist wouldn't suicide bomb if put in the right situation. Being Muslim doesn't make you more prone to terrorist activity. Being Muslim and having an insane spiritual leader, yeah, that could do it. Link to comment
