World of Warcraft. Probably the most talked about/played PC game of the last two years (Yeah, I know, Half Life 2, F.E.A.R, blah, blah). I never even toyed with the idea of playing it on my PC. Not out of a distaste for MMORPGS, but becuase I feared my machine would destroy itself due to the agony of running such a gem.

So, fast forward to today. A new video card sits in my hands. A good video card. I head into EB, just to look and what's the first PC game I see? WoW. Only $30? And a whole month free?!? Wow, sign me up!

Yeah, what a great fucking free month. "Oh, to get that, you have to purchase time first. We know we never said that... but, ya' know."

No, I don't fucking know. It says free time. THAT MEANS IT'S FUCKING FREE.

If you had access to a credit card, you wouldn't have to commit with a game card. But, like you said, not your choice.

Yea it's called fine print, many things in life have it, and this isn't really the one to be most pissed over...

Thankyou. Taking university level law, here. There is nothing about this in any of the documentation for the game. It just randomly springs it on you.

Anybody with any amount of MMORPG knowledge or even slight reading would know this, it is not blizzard, it is every fucking company who creates MMORPGS.

I played WoW for countless hours, and it was an excellent excellent game, and Blizzard is a near perfect developer, and have never released garbage.

Just because you didnt do your research doesnt mean you need to flip out at a great game company. Go buy a gamecard for another 30 bucks and play.

- Anywho, with that said I personally am taking time off / finished from wow (maybe if the expansion owns ill play again) and now am playing a mixture of Guild Wars and Everquest 2.

What research? I've now gone through the entire bulk of account info on the community site and still nothing. What god damn research?

I never said Blizzard was a crappy developer. Hell, I like Starcraft, Diablo, Diablo II, and Warcrafft III a great deal. They compose almost my entire PC library.

Which is still BS as far as I'm concerned. The game about a desolate futuristic wasteland where rogue vigilante garbage collectors have to clean the scum off the streets would have been an awesome game, alas Garbage: Picking up the Trash would never get past the early development phase due to lack of interest and Blizzard feel. Heaven forbid we have some innovation. Pssh.

I am still dumbfounded by the fact that you didn't realize that most people pay their MMO bills through a credit card, and that is the main target audience.

If you need a game card to even use the game, then you are obviously going to need to activate that card to even use the game, thus using your time.

...

You got turned around and flipped upside down somewhere. I knew perfectly well that the core audience payed via credit card. I had always planned to pay by the time card instead. What I didn't realise (And isn't stated anywhere on the packaging, in the documentation, or on the website.) is that I can't activate the first month without first activating a time card. Which is stupid.

"Yeah, there's a 1 month trial period..... but you have to pay first."

But you dont have to pay first. You just need to input your credit card to activiate and verify your acount, nothing gets charged till after 30 days, and if you dont want to be charged you can cancel the credit card (and the 30 days are still credited to your account)

Did you guys pay attention at all. If you're using time cards you have to enter one before you can activate your account. I'm rather lacking in a credit card, like I said fifteen time over.

Besides, it's over and done with. Card bought - free month in play.

0_0 if you plan on playing an MMO you should expect to pay anyway, so jusy go buy a time card.

Ha ha ha, this entire thread is like some hilarious sitcom where characters keep coming to hear the main character's problem, only to repeat things other characters have already said or the main character suggested.

I guess I might aswell ask what you think of the game?

Enjoying it a good deal. Some of the quests are a little to loose in their descriptio (I'm level twelve, have finished what would seem to be every other quest in the area, and still can't find Lady Sathrah to get the silver spinneret...), and I would like a more developed skill system (The ones you need points for) would be nice.

Other then that, though, I'm rather enjoying myself. The in-game economy needs a swift kick in the ass, since items go for insane amounts at auction - but what do I care? I make most of my equipment (And therefore a decent portion of what's on auction.) and am happy enough with the bow upgrades I'm given or find. The bow I have now is going for something like 8s 50b and I picked it up from a Blood Feather Rogue.

I really like the proffession system, though. Well, at least the people that make use of it. IT forces an odd, but enjoyable interdependency between players that's nice. I mean, I like that I can make an arrow sling or ammo bag for another player, and nab some much needed item in return.

My only other nitpick is that leatherworkers can't repair their own equipment. Which really seems odd.

Just a quick rant about WoW... its economy is so fucked. It's gotten to the point where probably almost half of the players buy their gold online. When people can buy 1500 gold and have it delivered almost instantly then they don't have any reserves about going to the AH and spending 500 gold on an item that shouldn't be worth nearly that much, which ends up encouraging higher prices on the AH since gold has become so devalued. Yeah, this happens eventually in every MMORPG (what can you do to stop it when there's an unlimited supply of resources?), but it seems like it has just gotten horribly awful in WoW now and Blizzard does absolutely nothing to stop it.

Yes. The economy is shit.

Still, I sell things for reasonable prices (Buyout is about twice vendor sale, and bidding starts at 1 3/4 vendor sale) and you know what? I make s shit load of money anyway. There's enough people who don't buy gold and are desperate for decent equipment and rare materials.

My auctions are normaly end through buyout within fifteen minutes. I've never once had something not sell (And I list two or three things a log-on). If all of the players who don't buy or farm gold would get into this habit, the economy could be shifted to some extent.

Even thought the higher part of the economy is shit, you can still get most items for reasonable prices at the AH, like Sien said.

For about 9 or 10 Gold, I can fully respec on equipment for my 48 Hunter if I am going for greens, but I guess if we are going for blues, I'd say 100-150; epics would go 1,500-4,000.

That's true, the lower end equipment is still fairly priced (it's been a couple months since I've last played, so I assume this is still the case)... the Epic prices are what have begun to get ridiculous. It's at the point where you probably won't be able to buy an Epic off the AH without buying gold. I understand Epic's should be fairly expensive, but the prices on some are just outrageous these days. My roommate bought 1500 gold the other day (which is kind of why this rant came up in the first place) and spent it all in two days.

True, trying to buy an epic is far beyond my reach because of the rediculous prices I have come across, like 400G for an Icemail Jerkin, which is only a lv 42 Epic item. I see 1,500 -2,000G for Fordor's Compendium Of Dragon Slaying (I cannot believe I remembered that), which is pushing the boundaries.

People are trying to sell Krol Blade's for outrageous prices, and getting an enchantment is out of reach for any normal player that doesn't have a guild bank or is a ninja. The problem with the whole thing is alot of these people selling the items are ninjas, so when a non-ninja puts up the same item (hopefully doing price research first), they will see the price and list it for a similar one, and then it all becomes lemmings.

I recently found a "fair price" for a blue item for my Mage, the item was only 9G, but that almost seems a bit much because the item level was 18.
