Hunting

What do you think of hunting? Should be allowed? Shouldn't?

I think hunting should be allowed, (of course with limits), I think it's better than eating normal meat since the animal had a kind of ok life.

That doesn't really happen... I live in a very pro-hunting area (hell, all of Michigan is very pro-hunting), and I've never heard of anyone just killing deer (or whatever animal) just to kill it. Everyone I know who goes hunting actually uses the meat. And the hunting is good for the overall animal population, without the hunting there would be many deer starving to death here. A quick, clean death is far better than slowly starving to death.

Killing animals just to kill them isn't hunting. That's called being a douchebag.

I don't see how hunting would fuck deer population. Nature has its own ways of keeping animal population in check and that doesn't mean men with weapons. I admit I'm definitley ignorant about hunting (like there are no real edible ect wildlife here in the desert) but I don't see why you would hunt at all for food unless you needed to, it's just cruel and a waste of time.

Well considering animals kill each other in the wild and it's the natural way of life (animals killing and eating each other and whatnot) I'm fine with hunting. I do think it should generally be limited to those who are going to use the animal they kill in some way though.

In areas where hunting is allowed the hunted animals are usually common enough that they can be pests. I think in Minnesota one time a bear walked into my grandma's living room (it's like a cabin, she has a normal house for the winter), and she shot it and got her fiance to clean it and that's what they ate all winter, although they had the money to eat other things. I know that's an extreme example but it's not like the populations are in danger. I also don't know anyone who shoots just for fun, usually when people have the heads and stuff they also ate the meat. Of course there is the problem of going past limits (probably any restaurant that serves venison is illegal) but eh, like i said I think eating processed-type meat is worse.

Take this:

The problem with that is that civilization has moved in, and from the time that we came we have hunted. From the time of the settlers to modern "sport" hunting we have influenced the enviroment of the animals. So nature HAS adjusted to men with weapons.

Cruel would be the end result of allowing the deer population to go up to a point where you have the food supply limited. Once that happens then deer try and find new grazing area. Deer would have to move though civilized areas, and thus would be killed by cars, ect.

It is something that humans have been doing before we were humans. For a hundred thousand years we hunted, IT IS NATURAL. It is the farming of animals that is unnatural. So instead of just soullessly going to buy your meat all the time, you do it as your ancestors did. Thus connecting with your past and yourself as a human being.

That is a problem. I myself have never been hunting. But my cousin has, with his father quite offten. I mean I love in an area that was nearly completly covered by woods several hundred years ago, so this stuff is always arround me.

I joined a native american Livejournal community because I think it's interesting to read their posts. The level of misunderstanding is pretty much as high as the islam one except with less hostility and more "ohh that's cool".

I know this is cliche rant but man I hate most people who claim to be wiccan because it is all to seem cool and alternative, or they aren't trying to be cool but are just obnoxious fake hippies. (hippies are cool but the people who think they can suddenly be all hippie are stupid it is like a personality trait you are born with)
