So, the thread that every anime section must have.

Post your favorite anime, and most hated ones, and reasons for each! :D

All-time favorite: Cowboy Bebop

The music is great, the bounties are entertaining and amusing, but most of all the character development is amazing. By the end you really care about the characters, which is what makes the final turn of events so sad. Plus, the last scene where Spike raids the Red Dragon headquarters is the best scene in all of anime (in my opinion).

Hated: Fruits Basket

Okay, so the show isn't too bad. The manga is way worse. But it's still incredibly over rated, and not very good. The characters are entirely stereotypical, and boring as all hell.

Favorite: G Gundam

I love the cheesey mechs, the cheesey characters, the cheesey plot, the cheesey ending, the cheesey character developement, and the cheesey backstory. Basically I love this show for everything that makes it terrible.

Favorite for rational reasons: probably Cowboy Bebop for the reasons given above, adding that the animation is wonderful.

Least favorite: Either DBZ or FLCL

DBZ was a show that had potential considering it's prequel, but was ruined by storylines that spanned more episodes than they ever had any right to, and (this might be considered nitpicking were it not consistent throughout nearly all of the nearly 300 episodes) HORRIBLE settings and backgrounds.

I hate FLCL because, while I like some of the drawing, it has terrible low-quality animation, which is inexcusable for a 6(?) episode long series. As for the plot, I never could figure it out and when I've asked fans to try to explain it to me, they always just fluster a bit before finally saying that it really doesn't have any coherent plot.

Favorite: Ranma 1/2 most assuredly. It's easily one of the most humorous anime series I've ever seen, it's also quite creative and it appeals to my favorite genre, which is action/comedy/romance. Sadly the series gets waaay too repetitive and the anime doesn't give you much of an ending. Ha, Ranma kicked Kuno into the sky for the 200th time! Rumiko Takahashi sure knew that would never get old. And Happosai was tricked by panties for the 250th time. Ha ha ha, didn't see that coming. Ranma was also the first anime I watched that I knew indeed was anime (saw Samurai Pizza Cats, My Neighbor Totoro, DBZ, and Sailor Moon before that, but I didn't know what anime was then), so it holds a soft spot in my heart (I need to get that region checked by a doctor speaking of which...).

It definitely has some interesting stuff in it, so that is quite appealing. The fight styles are ridiculous most of the time and always entertaining. Comedy seems to continually flow through it duing such moments as well, and the curse adds another odd aspect to the series.

Another great series is I'm Gonna Be An Angel! Sadly, Synch-Point are bastards and while it's been 5 years since they released the first volume (it was supposed to be out in 2000, which is the point I'm getting to), and they only have the third volume out. They are waaay too damn slow, new company or not. They got FLCL out in less than a year's time, the punks! Also, despite having three volumes out, good luck finding them. Sure, if you can manage to find the series online you can buy it, but usually it is out of stock, never o be restocked. Once in a blue moon you might, MIGHT, find a copy at Suncoast. Such a great series that I'll likely die before seeing the rest of...

Hated: It's not my most hated series, but I hate One Piece, and I can't understand how it has lasted as long as it has. Sure, it's a show for little kids, so was He-Man, and He-Man is still a good show, One Piece was for about 5 episodes. The problem with One Piece is that it takes advantage of something I call Hero Endurance waaay too much. Hero Endurance is when any hero character can take ridiculous amounts of beatings, then come back and beat the villain who can take 1/10 the same damage, despite the villain usually being much stronger than the hero.

*Sanji gets every bone in his body broken, then he gets half of his organs ruptured, he gets stabbed numerous times, held underwater for several minutes so his lungs are full of water. Finally he is crushed by a rock*

Fish-Man: Ha! That finishes him!

Sanji: Yeah right Fish-Man! I barely felt that!

*runs up and obliterates the fish-man in 5 kicks*

Fish-Man: I am undone! *collapses in defeat*

*Sanji, despite his wounds, has enough energy to reminisce on his past while smoking a cigarette and standing, for half an episode*

Slight exaggeration, but very similar circumstances occur in the actual show. Speaking of the actual show, thank god Luffy mysteriously is capable of holding his breath for over 15 minutes, though it is odd that he could completely forget he is capable of stretching his body, which he does in every fight he's in.

Another lame aspect of the show, which is probably once again due to its intended audience being children, is that it relies heavily upon friendship. And not even in the way that friends are important to battle either, it's as though the friendship grants everyone super powers. "I have to do this, even if I die, because I'm not a little kid anymore. I HAVE FRIENDS! AAAAAAH!! *cries for several minutes*" I think it may be due to every hero character having a "holier than thou" outlook on everything. Oh and the terrible, terrible flashbacks to stupid stuff that supposedly has to deal with character development and past, when in reality it is just to show what a bitch people like Nami are...

I always wondered if Watanabe was partially inspired for the end of Cowboy Bebop by the ending of Taxi Driver.

...

What?

It's possible!

Favorite: Fruits Basket, Boogie Pop Phantom

Hated: most things. I think Cowboy Bebop is particularly annoying though, if just for being a mediocre show that amassed such a huge rabid fanbase.

I was going to borrow The boxset for Boogie Pop Phantom from my buddy cip, so I guess I will now.

Favorites: Serial Expiriments: Lain, Boogiepop Phantom, Haibane Renmei, and to some degree Evangelion (which had some amazing concepts, but ultimately suffered from terrible execution),

Unfavorites: I dunno... I forget. I don't really hate any anime, just the majority of it seems painfully cliched, sexist, and repetative.
