15 Year Old Charged with Piracy

Recommended Posts

thats what i said earlier, if thats how it works on the high seas (I dont know) then so be it. I kind of thought anything that happens in international waters stays there. Taking a pirate against the law is pretty much the same as kidnapping.

It looks like he may be a lot older then previously claimed. (like 17-19)

ITS WAS THOUSANDS OF MILES AWAY FROM THE USA?

this is THE OBVIOUS PROBLEM.

In international waters. Captured on-board a ship registered under the US flag.

If you mean legally. well that's not an issue. We have anti-piracy laws and...

Article One, Section 8, Clause 10 of the US Constitution

Enumerated powers of Congress

*To define and punish piracies and felonies committed on the high seas, and offenses against the law of nations;

And just for the record. high seas = international waters

Still not seeing a problem here.

Hmmm... US Ship maybe?

It wasn't an American ship, its owned by a Danish company. It just happened to be operated and crewed (not owned) by Americans, and so we decided it was our duty (and we do have a right to protect our citizens) to swoop in and start shooting.

If anything, by your logic, this case should be tried in a Danish court.

I love how anyone who supports the law only does so when it is in their favor...

Doesn't matter! The ship is registered under the US flag. EOS

Well clearly our current system of sending folks to Crime Camp (I'm, of course, referring to the skills that the convicted tend to learn while incarcerated) is doing wonders...

The fact of the matter is, throwing people in huge, overcrowded prisons is horribly expensive and horribly ineffective at preventing crime.

Back to topic though...

well as long as we are already off topic...
