U.S. and Iran - United against gay rights groups

Recommended Posts

WASHINGTON, Jan. 23, 2006 — The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force today denounced the United States' vote against two gay rights organizations' applications to join the United Nations Economic and Social Council. The United States joined the repressive, anti-gay regimes of Iran, Zimbabwe, China, Cameroon and others in voting against even granting a hearing to the application of the International Lesbian and Gay Association (ILGA) and the Danish Association of Gays and Lesbians (Landsforeningen for Bosser og Lesbiske — LBL). Instead, the two groups' applications were summarily dismissed without a hearing. (...)

I guess human rights are only appropriate for straight people, and we should all rightfully kill and abuse gay men and lesbian women. They surely don't deserve food, clean water, and shelter. Those silly queers. Expecting human decency.

Personally I think that this is just idiotic, but in all honesty, would they really have any power if they had joined the counsel anyway? The fact is it would have just served as a forum for them to voice their opinions, and the fact is that they may get more media coverage for being rejected than if they had been accepted.

Look man

I don’t believe America is fighting gays, it’s really sad to see prejudice today, at least openly. I cant understand why one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice for ALL can openly condemn other types of people?! WHO THE FUCK DO WE THINK WE ARE? In a couple more centuries we will all be speaking Spanish too! I mean get with the program Queer Haters.

i feel like that could be babble... or very insightful either way I think its stupid to deny ones sexuality, its really one of the greatest parts of life

What's the use of media coverage (and remember, the American media downplays events like this or in the case of Fox News, practically celebrates them) if it has no real impact on the world? Obviously the purpose of the joining the council would be to help protect homosexuals in poorer countries where they're regularly stoned and killed. Coverage in the NYT won't help that.
