What happens when you're the no-talent son of a famous musician that hopes to make it big in the comic industry? Rip off something popular of course!

So when you say no talent, your talking about how hes actually a good artist, seeing as he pencils the comic himself. That i would say is talent. Copying a story is one thing, but you cant say he has no talent, cause he can clearly draw better than alot of people.

Artist? He copied all of that exactly from bleach. Like EXACTLY. I mean it literally looks like he stole frames.

Did he really think people weren't going to notice? Bleach is pretty popular...

That's the funny thing in all of this, is that the audience who'd be interested in his series is probably familiar with shonen manga, and if they are, should already know what Bleach is and could clearly see the stolen frames.

He should have just traced porn frames.

I'm sure he'd get called out on that by the same people.

It would have took a bit longer, though. Greg Land didn't get called out too much until he traced movie and comic stills and even then atleast he was using them as poses instead of directly copying the scenes and dialouge like Simmons is doing.

Edit: Radical (the publisher) halted publication and sale on this today, by the way.

And yet somehow Land still gets work! :awesome:

Land retraces poses which honestly isn't that uncommon. even Bob Kane retraced a lot for Batman's poses in the early Detective Comics issues. but that's mostly just pose swapping.

Nick Simmons is copying just about everything, character designs included.

it's like saturating the color on Goodfellas so Robert Di Niro and Ray Liotta look black with grey suits and calling it a your own/a different movie.

Ahahaa... oh man... at least we know what Bleach looks like if it was printed in full colour! I love how some of the LJ folks are bashing Gene Simmons even though he didn't do anything this time.

And I thought Greg Land was an awful artist... oh wait, he still is! I meant, Norman Osborne looking a lot like Obama and Iron Man wearing the exact same armour from the movie posters for example.

Oh.... has anyone seen Tite Kubo's response to all of this?

Between last night and this morning, I've been getting a lot of messages from overseas fans along the lines of "There's an American comic ripping off Bleach!". I'm not that good at English, but I looked at the site and it seems it's a comic by Nick Simmons, the son of Gene Simmons.

To be honest, I'm more bothered by the fact that Gene Simmon's son is a comic artist than whether or not it's a rip-off...

I like how all of this gave Deb Aoki enough time to dust off her soap box and publish something she's probably had cocked and loaded for months now, even though it has little to do with plagiarism. This whole "Piracy is worse them plagiarism!" stupid debate she's started.

I bet I could do that too. Have a open discussion about two crimes that aren't really related, but use one against the other so the first seems trivial.

So everyone look forward to my "ARMED ROBBERY IS BAD - BUT ISN'T RAPE A WORSE VIOLATION OF A PERSON'S RIGHT?" article coming soon!
