EVE - Have you played it?

In the two weeks I had it I clocked 35 hours and could have gone more. If I do buy it I'll only leave me room too pee.

Of course, when Star Trek online comes out I'll never leave me room.

You should buy it and we should start a Corp together. For some reason I would think that our powers combined would be a unstoppable force.

It would be some crazy capitalist-socialist hideous amalgamation that feeds on the blood of the innocent and young virgin girls. Unstoppable indeed.

Also, anyone who wants to try this game out, totally free, for 14 days, either post here or PM me your email address and I'll send you a trial key, via the EVE Online Buddy Program. No credit card, or other personal information needed, all you'll have to do is download the program. (Which is a little over 500MB)

I played around with my friend's account for a couple hours one day. That was after he got through the eight hour help manual at the beginning of the game. Personally, I think it's boring as hell but that's me. My friend's a big nerd and fucking loves it.

Its one of those games that takes a bit to get into. The way I see it the game fucking rocks largely because the community fucking rocks, and if you don't get involved in some way, it really isn't a whole lot of fun.

During my Mad Maxathon on Friday, one of my friends who plays EVE brought over his laptop and was playing EVE during Thunderdome (because that's his least favorite of the trilogy). Apparently he got ganked by pirates after the following conversation (humorously enough, right during the Thunderdome scene).

Pirates: Give us money or we'll destroy your pod.

My friend: Okay, I'll give you 10,000 ISK. (Or something like that. I'm not sure on the specifics.)

Pirates: No! Not enough!

Then, rather than dealing with him more, they killed him.

I thought it was funny.

I almost gave up on the game during the tutorial. It was hellish. Then I found out you spend at least half the game in Autopilot, and got incredibly bored. And then it seems like 80% of the population just mines all day long. As my neighbor says, "Overall the game is about exciting as watching grass grow, whithout the gratification of knowing that someday you'll get to cut it."

Its the kind of game where if you don't get involved in the community at all, the whole thing sucks ass. But when you're dicking around with 10 other guys on TS or in Corp Chat, then those long space flights are more then bearable. I mean, the combat is no where near as exciting as most other MMOs, but the way the whole galaxy feels like a living entity is amazing. If Age of Conan or Darkfall manage this kind of player run universe, and on top of that are able to have engaging combat, they're going to be the best MMOs to date by far.

My friend who I mentioned above has perfected playing EVE, actually. Since he has two computers.

What he does is he sets the thing on autopilot, then ignores it for awhile and messes around on his other computer doing forums, AIM, et cetera. He checks up on EVE every now and then. This seems to be the way to play the game.

Although, he has been killed by pirates before when he took an exceptionally long break to go eat dinner while he was traveling across the galaxy...

EDIT: And yes, I have heard that the community aspects are really, really cool. Just what I hear sounds cool. Corporations allying against each other, hiring spies to join rival corporations and all that.
